hmmm... has your bully every pee'd the bed while sleeping?

Okay so Stella completely emptied her bladder in her sleep and then got up, walked over a few inches and laid back down. I thought maybe it could be from pregnancy but maybe not.. I mean yes, human women have incontinence issues toward the ends of their pregnancy but they are also bipedal, walking upright and the weight of their babies press directly down on their bladder.. But a sleeping bulldog lying on it's side? Seams a stretch to think that it's pregnancy related. -

So what next? I considered maybe she has a UTI.... I suppose the only way to know is to take her to the vet. I may take her tomorrow. I'll definitely be watching her to see if is seams like she's in pain when she goes out to pee.

My next idea is that there has been a link between dogs who have been spayed an early incontinence because the lack of estrogen tends to cause their muscles in that area to relax. So I went searching for how much estrogen a dog has when she's pregnant.. I realize that pregnancy and diestrus are both regulated for the most part by progesterone... but what about estrogen? Don't they need estrogen to produce milk? So if she's low and it's so low it's causing her to be incontinent then what does that say about possible milk production? - After searching for a while I found one site with a chart and her estrogen levels should be starting to go up (for milk production) about now... so it's doubtful that she's incontinent due to low estrogen (or at least I sincerely hope not because that will be the least of our worries).

So then I started thinking... this isn't the first time. I noticed a dry spot on the carpet when I woke up the other morning, I had just had my carpets cleaned and the spot was noticeable. I bent down to smell it and sure enough it was pee. I didn't know which dog to blame it on (we have 2) and both have been house trained for a VERY long time... So I figured it was a fluke. But what if it wasnt? What if that was Stella and this is Stella (for sure), what then? So that brings me back to a UTI but I brought her in a week and a half ago (about the same time I found the spot) to check for infections because I saw a little discharge and they ran her blood and said they didn't see a high white blood cell count so she was fine. - (for Pyo at least) they did say that she had vaginitis which I treated with Vagisil (per my doctors instructions) but would a UTI show up on the blood test? OR would vaginitis (if I didn't treat it long enough) cause her to be incontinent?

Any thoughts?

Catch a urine sample

Someone here said the easiest way is with a ladle.  I'm not positive but I dont' think a bloodtest would show a UTI they need to test the urine for that.

Good luck.

Need a urine sample to catch a UTI...can't do that with BW.

They can catch elevated cells, which could lead you to catching a urine sample if they ruled out other things.

Yes...Molly has done this

Yes...Molly has done this when she UTI.

Vet

I called the vet and asked and they said it's probably just because she's pregnant... I asked if I should bring her in for a UTI test and they said no need. I duno, I'll watch her I guess. I know there's no way I could ever catch her peeing so they'd have to do a catheter. She won't pee or poop infront of me.
