High Protein in puppy food

I will be a new bull dog owner very soon and I have been doing about a year worth of research on not only the breed but the dog food as well. I have read a lot of opinions and a lot of facts as well. As the time draws closer for me to bring the new family member home I still have not found exactly what Im looking for in food as far as answers go. I have my mind set but Im the type that tries to get as much info as possible. I know what some of the experts and Vets say from both sides of the arguement and I also know what some of my fellow dog owners say from experience. Im looking for facts not opinions based on nothing more than "hear say". Please forgive me for being so blunt but other bulldog forums tend to lend more opinion than factual help.

If you can provide sources for the arguement that way I can do my own research that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

One of the best sites I've used

Is www.dogfoodproject.com

I used it when I went thru the search for a quality food that my dog could tolerate.  Bottom line, no matter what the food, the dog has to do well on it.  There are breeders that have used Purina for their dogs for years with great success.  It wouldn't be my choice, but my boy had bad reactions to some pretty high quality stuff, so who am I to talk? lol

From working with many different breeds (I worked in a boarding/training facility), I go with the recommendations of trying to temper growth spurts with lower fat (ie: adult food) to lessen issues with the joints and panosteitis.  Dog food is also a definite "you get what you pay for" thing.

Look the site over.  I especially appreciated the 'Ingredients to avoid' section.  It helped narrow things down quickly.

Good luck with your new bullie!!

Thanks for the website that

Thanks for the website that you provided. The information that was provided was helpful. Those views of the author was the same things that I have been researching and have also likened as my own. With all of my research that I have done I have found more information on why protein is not the cause of most of the problems.

It's not the amount of protein

It's the type. The studies that showed too much protein to be detrimental studied plant protein. The researchers mistakenly concluded that all protein was bad. Later studies showed a different outcome with animal protein. That's why raw feeders do so well.

Good for you for doing your research!

YES!

Dogs are carnivores so I don't know why people are so surprised when plant protien causes problems.

Actually the MOISTURE within the food  is just as important as the protien in it. Dry food over time causes a LOT of organ stress.

Bulldogs pups really don't need puppy food...

we always put our right on an adult food that is 24% or so protein, preferably grain free which helps them to not develop allergies.
