Higgins was lathargic all weekend. Then i took him to er on monday after a violent thowup he had. He has had a phlemy cough for a long time but the vets have not been able to come to a conclusion why. I feel partly responsible like I should of pushed them more.
They diagnosed him with asperated pnemonia. He was on an iv all night and put into an oxygen chamber. and they said they nebulized him... I have had him home since tuesday night. His recovery is so slow. I have not left his side. sometimes I have to hold his head while he sleeps so he can breathe better.
The vet gave him azithromiacyn and a few anti nausia meds. We have a the humidifier on him and we put him the bathroom during showers and try to coupage him...
Does any one have experiance with this? any imput would be appreciated. because of his old age i am wondering if he will be able to get to better.
Oh no!
How scary! Poor Higgins!
I don't have any experience with pneumonia.
Would you mind telling me what you first noticed and how it progressed? I always appreciate being able to learn from others' experiences......
I sure hope he feels 100% very soon.

well he has always had
well he has always had occasional regurge after eating or drinking. In june he started to get it all the time. It would be huge think white phlem balls and water or food. The dr, said it was kennel cough. It never really got better. He started getting really lethargic, over the weekend. Then in morning he had what we call pukey sways. He would throw up bile and not catch his breath and kind of faint.... panic get really stiff.. when that happens it really scary. I calmed like usual and blew breath threw his nose. Then he started breathing again. Then he started shaking and throwing up more using his stomach muscles aggressively. I took him to er and they said he had asperation pnemonia. but now we are trying to get to the bottom of the regurge that cause it in the first place. I really doubt it was kennel cough. I am now thinking its really bad acid reflux... Its just hard because vets dont understand bulldogs.
Have you ever had his palette
checked by a vet that is familiar with bulldogs. Palettes can continue to grow as the dog ages. He could also have a small trach, which requires an xray to check and this can't be corrected.
How old is he?
Wish him the best recovery. Pneunomia is a hard one especially in old dogs and puppies.
he had the surgery done when
he had the surgery done when he was young... He is now 10 and a half..... To old for surgery again....
He's very handsome
and I wish him the best. And yes too old to have surgery.
How is he doing?
Dawn's Miss Betty Cute Face just had this recently
Perhaps look up some of her past posts. Miss Betty is about the same age she pulled through but it took a while.
What I question is if he had kennel cough why wasn't he on antibioitcs in the first place.
Has any one also check him over really well, listened to his lungs and heart before all this happened.
Can you check on the home page and maybe find a good Bully vet that you might be able to take him too.
Or post on the other forum as well and ask if any one has a good recommendation.
Give Mr. Higgins lost of hugs and kisses for me. and I'm sending you a big cyber HUG to you also.
Sending healing thoughts and prayers to Mr. Higgins. Please keep us posted.

get well soon, Higgins
Mr. Higgins and I will be crossing our fingers for a quick recovery for you. Sounds like he is receiving good vet care. Think positive thoughts, that is what I try to do in difficult times.
Sending our good thoughts,
Deborah and Mr. Higgins
I have had lots of
I have had lots of experience, my past bullie apsirated 3 times before he passed. I had him in the er the first and second time and he ended up recovering both times, but it happened again and I wasnt so lucky. I had spent over 10000 dollars and he was only 7 months old when he passed. I would recommened them looking further into it when he is healthy and recovered from the pnemonia. I feel your pain and my best wishes go out to you and your family.
Oh my gosh seven months.
Oh my gosh seven months. What a nightmare. I really want to find out the cause of it.
Higgy seems to be recovering pretty good. Hes snuggling and kind of playing. I love him so much , i love the bully smell...... We get x rays on monday. I am talking with an internal medicince specialist, and going to see a nutritionist. The clinic has a u.c. davis side were they have the nutritionist..
