Help with Rash! Pic

Help! My 3 year old bulldog has a really bad rash on his side and I cannot figure out what it is.He has had it for several months now. I thought that it might have been allergies but he has been put on pednisone a few times and it hasn't helped. he has also been given antibiotics and nothing seems to be helping him. He does get itchy somethimes and I am giving him benedryl for that. He also has scabs all over his body. We have been to the vet many times already and they do not know what it is either. Anyone have any ideas??

Did the vet scrap and culture

it to determine what antibiotics to give him?  If he has scabs all over his body I would suspect a staph infection.

What are you feeding?  Have you tried changing his food?

Yes

He has had several scrappings done and all have come back with nothing. They even tried treating him for mites even though nothing was found. He is currently eating Natural Balance sweet potato and bision. We have also tried both Natural Balance venision and Natural Balance duck formulas but nothing has helped. I am planning on getting allergy testing done on him in the spring but since it is only in the one spot on his side the vet does not think that it could be allergies.

If he were mine

I would change his food to another brand.  Natural Balance was horrible for Cleo. The problem could be the sweet potato. It is also possible it could be contact allergies like the others have suggested.  Allergy testing would be a good start.  I might also change vets and get another opinion on the scraping and culture.

Thanks

I think I will try changing his food to another brand. He is overweight so I need to find a good allergy and diet food for him. I have change vets because the first one was no doing anyhting for him. They both did scrappings a few times and all of them came back with nothing.

Any chance it could be a contact allergy?

Any new detergents, carpet cleaners, bug sprayers, salt on the sidewalk, anything new around the time it started?  It's surprising what can cause skin problems, I had a dog that would break into hives if he even walked into a room with anything washed in Tide, he didn't even have to touch it.

I am always using different

I am always using different detergents (I usually just buy whatever is on sale) and my house is all hard wood floors so it can't be the carpets. It's just so hard to tell what it could be. It's driving me crazy and I feel so bad for him!

maybe its the shampoo? or if

he keeps scratching, then it never heals type of situation?

scratching

It's in a wierd spot on his side and he can't actually reach to scratch it but he will roll around and try to scratch it on the ground so I can tell it's itchy.

Rash....

I know you've tried a lot of things, but what did you do first? I suggest, if you haven't yet, try cleaning the area with brown Listerine and when dry apply Gold Bond powder. Good luck!

I am also thinking contact allergy

We had to switch detergents to Arm and Hammer and start using natural cleaning products.  We do not use any carpet powder or anything like that.  I mop the floors with vinegar and water.  It wouldn't hurt to try that.  Hope you figure it out!
