Hot spot...
You might try to clean with listerine or peroxide, then dry and apply Gold Bond powder. A Benedryl two or three times a day (depends on size, ask vet for dosage) might help with the itching. Looks awful...these things can go from the size of dime to palm size before you know it. Good luck!
Hot spot help
Micki's right...listerine (the old fashioned gold kind) and gold bond powder can help. Just be sure you get it out past the edges of the hot spot, too. These things can grow like crazy. Another home remedy: Mix 16 oz alcohol, 1/4 cup boric acid, and 16 drops genitian violet in a shaker bottle. Thoroughly cover the hot spot and at least 1" outside the hot spot twice a day. This will dry it out very quickly. Shake well before each use, and be careful...the purple stains like crazy...if you spill it, wipe it up fast.
Cathy Hardegree
i use witch hazel....
does not sting and dries the spot right up....henry is the only one i am having hot spot problems from...he loves the water...if possible try to shave as much from the spot a groomer may be able to help...antibotics dont help unless you have a secondary infection going on....
Hot spot
I should think the listerine would burn like hell....Especially the alcohol...Have you ever put that on an open sore? I got ceplexin and also some prednisone when they get that bad, IMO....
hot spot
And if she keeps scratching it I would use a soft e-collar. I am dealing with it now with my mastiff. Yuck! It clears up very quickly with ceph and pred....
Thats what I was always afraid of
- the possibility of it burning. My bully can't stand the listerine he just hates the smell. It drives him crazy.
unrelated to this thread...
but still somewhat relevant...Onslow buddy, we need to see some recent pics of you! I'm missing your sweet mug on the forum!
Shannon and Winston :)
My swimming bully buddy!
I know I've been terrible!
I used to get some up atleast once a week and its been months. I will work on getting some new ones of him and thanks for the request! =)
Listerine doesn't burn....
....it does have a distinct fragrance.
Yes, have put on open cut--even used on a teething rash on granddaughter who doesn't mind a bit.
