My 5 month old bulldog went to the vet yesterday for some shots and he discoved a grade 2 heart murmur that wasn't there at her previous check ups. She went from 17 lbs to 30 lbs in 2 months. He said it could be just because she is growing so fast and it couple go away. I am really scared that it won't go away and my baby girl will have issues. Any advice or stories of good out comes to help calm my mind over the next three weeks?
Thanks
No personal experience
but a couple of our members have bullies with more severe heart murmurs in their dogs. I hope they see your post and reply.
Shannon and Winston :)
My swimming bully buddy!
Grade 2
heart murmur from what I understand is usually not likely to cause any issues and could go away on its own.
Good luck!
Agree
no experience but my understanding is a Grade 2 is pretty mild and they can live with it and grow out of it. I would also wait a couple of months and have her checked again. Don't panic! They should not be used in a breeding program though.
I had a chihuahua with a grade 2 heart murmur
She was diagnosed when she was 4 at a grade 2 then as she gets older it got worsed and when I took her in for a chest xray her heart was the size of my fist it got larger and was a grade 4 this was when she was 9 and even with meds enapril and another med that starts with a V, I forgot the name, she seems to be better for 2 months and then it just got bad, she was panting, couldn't breath and she lost weight from 10lbs to 4lbs and was losing her balance because she wasn't getting any oxygen to her brain. She lost conscious and passed away. Don't exercise your dog or have him play rough and since he was diagnosed young perhaps it will go away? Did you get a second opinion, sometimes vet can be wrong. I've been there when one of the vet told my dog that his right adrenal gland was enlarged but i took him to a different vet and it was normal. I waited 6 months to recheck back to the 1st vet that said he had an enlarged adrenal gland and believe this, she said both his adrenal glands looks normal this time on the ultrasound! When I asked how come it's normal now and last time she said it was enlarged, she said sometimes it can shrink on it's own?! (I don't think so). I always get 2nd or 3rd opinion.
