I purchased it for the first year.(the most expensive year of life) I believe it was V.P.S. It came in handy with all her mishaps. Make sure you look at what it covers and how much of it.

And do recommend it. But any issue you have had prior to getting the insurance is not usually covered. We had Ozzy checked by a covering vet who was very anti pure breeds and noted everything that could possibly go wrong with a bully and we had a heck of a time getting things covered. With the help of our new bulldog vet, the problem was taken care of. Also note some insurances consider each plan year a new plan--so if your dog was treated for eye issues in 2008 then they are considered pre existing for 2009. I checked petinsurancereviews.com there are lots of reviews for a multitude of plans. We are changing Ozzy's when Jax (the new puppy) comes home.

Ask about exclusions. It just might be all the problems you could have with a certain breed of dog, have been written out of an Insurance contract. Just saying Ask!

I had it when Zimmer was a puppy. They pay very little against shots, vet visits, etc. and they have a long list of exclusions particularly for the bulldog breed. I've heard others say it comes in handy for emergencies, cancer, etc. It like all insurance is hedging your bets. I say save your money & keep a separate account for vet bills. I didn't get back one third of what my premium was the year I had it...waste of money.

Absolutely love it. It doesn't cover the exam fee or routine shots, but it pays 90% of everything else. It helped alot when we went through 3 weeks of allergy issues with Maggie (it did cover the allergy shots/ephinepherin and meds). It also repaid the majority of her distichia surgery. We get reimbursed in just about a week to a week and a half. I had looked into insurances prior to getting Maggie, and thought Trupanion was the best in terms of what's covered. When I took her to the vet's office the first time, they also recommend Trupanion, so it was a no brainer for us as to which one. Maggie will need distichia surgery again - she still has a few more eyelashes that need to be zapped off. (When the vet did it, she said every time she froze one off, more would pop up in it's place almost immediately - she said she'd never seen a dog with so many eyelashes like that! She thought she'd gotten them all, but an exam a few weeks later showed a few).

From PetFirst to Trupanion so good to hear good results from a bulldog owner. With some of the others its not really whats not covered but the "covered for life" PetFirst will cover something in one plan year then it is considered pre-exsiting in all future plan years--whereas Trupanion will cover a chronic issue for life.

they do not exclude congenital conditions or hereditary disorders, except for hip dysplasia. They also recently lifted the payoff limits! Now there is NO LIMIT on the policy!
Her first year we had AKC, and even though we bought the most expensive policy available, we saved $300 her first year because ot it. They exclude congenital and hereditary everything, so I decided to switch.
we did
