Hey everyone,
We gave him a prob rib bone today. Stupid us, we didn't realize it was soft after being in the crockpot. He ate about 1/2 of it. We think it might of been the length of a finger or so...or 1/2 a finger.
So... what do we do?
Just wait for all the signs?
Hope that it passes...
eeeeek...

NEVER give your bully
cooked bones!
Probably, though he will be okay if he did not choke on it.
Only raw meaty bones in the future though.
Raw bones only:-)
A cooked bone will splinter and can cause a tear or perforation in the intestinal tract, which can cause internal bleeding and death:-(. Do not EVER feed any bone to your dog that is cooked in any fashion. Raw bones only.

I'm aware of this now..
I guess he'll be ok?

I'm sorry! After I posted, I realized I didn't give you any...
GOOD advice for AFTER the problem! Ok, you want to watch for any type of diarrhea that is red or comes on suddenly. It would happen after about 3-4 days of eating the bone. If you see this, go to your vet right away. It means their is possibly a perforation or hole that has been poked in the intestine somewhere. If he ingested large enough slivers that could definitely happen. You will also want to watch for vomiting...it means he maybe didn't get that bone to digest and it is sitting in his tummy. He might hack it up in that case. Gums should be checked for a few days to make sure they are staying nice and pinkish. If they become white, vet trip:-)
I am telling you this from experience with a Golden Retriever that ate some discarded bones. She died...it was when I was a kid and she was our dog. We didn't see the signs and didn't know what was happening when we did catch it finally. It was way too late at that point. I don't mean to sound like an alarmist, but it can turn ugly or it might be just fine:-) Just keep your eyes open:-)

Thanks Amy!
Yes, those were the signs I was looking for. So far, he's pooped 2x since, and drinking, eating, etc...cross fingers. Such a stupid mistake!

pork bone is pretty soft.....
i would not be in to much of a panic...pork is pretty soft bone ......just watch for vomiting....unable to poop...seems like a constant belly ache....the stomach acid is pretty good at digesting bone....just remember cooked bones are a no no....and the reason is they splinter...but it sounds like your guy did ok.....
Oh Thank You Judy!
We don't really know how big it was, but my husband realized he swallowed it and took it away right away....We just didn't know that about cooked bones...
Thanks for the reasurrance, and we'll keep a close eye on him!
