Having Trouble Pooping...

Having trouble pooping......Morning everyone.... Starting yesterday Ernie has had some trouble doing his business, he seems to be squatting for long periods of time trying to push it out, but has had little luck, and then comes back in with some still on him bum that I have had to wipe off for him.... We had thought it might be some sort of constipation, but as of this morning, he's still taking a bit longer to go, but is at least now getting some bigger ones out. Any thoughts if anyone has had this happen before? We havent changed his food at all, still using the same from when we got him, and putting in Yogurt and Pumpkin occasionally as well. Thanks!

Maybe you could try a little Metamucil in his food...

we've never had this problem, our guys are pooping machines, but I've heard of using Metamucil for constipation as long as you're certain he hasn't eaten anything that can cause a blockage.

He may be dehydrated

water is necessary for proper digestion. Try giving him ice cubes to munch on to supplement his drinking water.

I wouldn't add

the pumpkin, even though it is fiber it is also used to firm them up.

You may want to start a probiotic. What kind of dog food is he on?

Thanks for all the advice

Thanks for all the advice everyone.... We have held off on the pumpkin for now but the next morning he went out and did some big business!! So everything is back to normal now. Thanks again for the advice... I will keep it in mind if we have this issue again.
