has anybully had any bad reactions to revolution flea/heartworm med?

Dear all,

First I just wanted to mention how sad i was to hear about lilly and ozzy, both very memorable bullies.  I love lilly's face, very squishy and cute, but angry teeth at the same time- way too cute.  I love ozzy and his nachos and his big goofy personality! sad about uga 8 too.. and anyone that i may have missed... heaven needed more angels so they had to go, plus this way it makes more room for you to go rescue some more bullies or dogs.. :)

Hope everyone in the cold weather is doing ok.. to see it on the news is amazing...i can't begin to imagine... i am so spoiled because i am in california and its going to be 70 degrees this weekend... why doesn't everyone just move here? :)

Also, Happy bday to all the bullies out there too - sorry i have been at work alot lately so i am trying to fit this all into one post! I can't wait til my bully gets all old and grey... do white bullies turn grey?

ANYWAYsss... I recently tried Revolution on my Kibby and the next day she had a cyst in between her toes. kibby hasn't had one in a while, and then all of the sudden its back.... her cysts usually get super bright red on day one, then they keep growing, then pop, then clear puss, then swelling gradually goes down... all of this over a period of 7 days. i wonder what caused it this time, since she hasn't had it in a while.  So now I am kinda scared of revolution ..

1. i put it on her at 3 different places before i realized that it was only suppose to be on her nape of her neck? do you think this is an issue since this is heartworm med too?  seems like alot of liquid just for one area though...

2. the idc may have come from a new canned food that i was trying out.. natures varierty pork stew.. yes, pork! i thought it was strange because i never see pork dog food...why is that? but i thought i would try it since she was doing well on other natures variety products. ? i stopped giving it to her. (she has eaten other pork human food ocassional treats with no issues)

3. Revolution really smells chemically, and they say it only last 1 month... i was thinking of switching back to my advantage or frontline. do i really need heartworm protection? we don't live near woods, no cats, and kibby does not eat poo (she runs from it, for real) . do most people use the chewy ones?

any feedback would be great! thanks, sincerely, christine

Revolution....

If you search back in the old BDW archives, I think you will find some references to some reactions to Revolution from when it first came on the market.  It's difficult to say, because as you know, every Bulldog is an individual and what bothers one doesn't bother another--foods as well.  I understand that Collies in particular are a breed that cannot tolerate Revolution.

I live in NYS and do not use flea and tick preventatives/killers except for Adams spray when we go to show or class or outing that is outdoors and away from home, and I give brewers yeast with garlic daily.   I have used DE in dog runs and dog yard and use Sevin dust around perimeter of yard and house and never see fleas and rarely a tick (knock on wood).

As for Heartworm preventative, I do give this monthly medication by mouth, since years ago a neighbor's dog almost died from the heartworms and won't take a chance on this.  This is contracted from a mosquito.

Regarding the IDC's, I have one who had chronically suffered from these, though now after 3 years, it's more acute.  I tried different foods and medications and never could figure out what triggered them.  Now I use a prescription cream called fluocinonide and it works - for him - better than any other remedy I've tried--and I believe I must have tried them all.

Good luck!

IDC

I highly doubt the Revolution had anything to do with the IDC.

Frontline/ Advantage/ Revolution could all cause a reaction. It just depends on the dog.  I have used Revolution with no trouble...but I have had a dog have a reaction to Frontline.  Personally I don't use these on my dogs on a regular basis because we typically don't have a flea problem where I live.  I have found that on occasion I have returned home from dog shows with fleas.  They could have come from the show, the hotel, the other dogs that I was rooming with. Not really sure.  So in the past 15 years I have used flea meds maybe a dozen times.  We do not have a heartworm problem in our area so we don't use heartworm prevention on a regular basis.  I do have the dogs tested every couple of years though.  Southern states where mosquitos are prevelent throughout the year are the areas that you need to have year round heartworm prevention.

i didnt realize heartworms are from mosquitos.. i thought it came from eating poo! got it.. i never had a dog with heartworms before but better be safe then sorry.

my dogs don't have fleas either... i just put on frontline or whatever i have as a precaution for the summer months, as we tend to go to alot of dog parks, etc...

thank you for all your help, it is much appreciated!
