Green Crusty Nose update

I posted yesterday asking what to put on my new foster's nose.

When I got home from work yesterday, I felt comfortable enough (and him w/me) to look a little more invasively at him.  I looked in his ears, checked his eyes out and looked in his mouth.  Well, I knew he smelled bad and was dirty - was planning on washing him that evening....didn't expect to see what I found.

His teeth are rotten.  I'm not exaggerating....his teeth are in really bad shape and the upper right canine and surrounding inch of gum tissue is actually dark green.....rotten.  Horrible!  No wonder he smells like poop!  In addition to the teeth/gums and crusty nose, his right eye is odd (can't see the white part - it's discolored dark and red) and his ears are infected.  I suspect it's all related to the same infection.

The most serious condition though, is his breathing.  He struggles to breathe at all....I suspect a severe palatte issue.  I have a vet appt this afternoon for him.  Poor baby.  The people who surrendered him said to me, "well, he has lost some weight lately" and they gave me a giant bag of dog cologne.  Ummmm....just glad they handed him over to the rescue who has the ability to get him fixed up.

Here's a pic of him post-bath :)  He's a very sweet boy, can't wait to see what he's like when he feels better and can breathe!

Breaks my heart...

to read of this poor guy and all his problems. I just cannot fathom how anyone could treat any animal with such neglect. Poor boy! You are to be so highly commended for taking him on. Obviously he finally found someone who gives a damn. Kudos to you and your family.

Poor bubba

lost weight because he can't eat.  :(  I'm glad he is with you, someone who will care for him properly.  Best wishes with him and keep us posted on how he is doing.  I bet he will love getting down some mush, poor baby.

Poor guy...

I can just imagine how awful he feels.  Let us know what the vet says.

Feel better Tyson!

Please keep us posted on this guy.  Sure he's so happy someone is taking care of him.  If only dogs could talk!

Poor Guy

Glad they surrendered him.  He'll be feeling better very soon.  Sounds like alot of work ahead of you.  His eye may be just fine.  Dogs with really nice pigment don't have white scalera and it is actually very nice when the white is pigmented.  Infact when looking at the eye you should not see the white at all per the standard.  MacKenzie has big beautiful round brown eyes and his white scelara is now mostly brown, perfect beautiful eye when you don't see the white.
