We were getting ready to board Tuffy at the vet this morning for our four day getaway when my daughter noticed Tuffy biting his front paw raw. When we dropped him off, we had the vet examine his paw and the vet confirmed its a cyst and said he'd wrap it and treat it. He said these cysts are very common with the bulldog breed.
We'll followup up with the vet whe we return from our trip, but can anyone recommend how you deal with these interdigital cysts and are there any preventive measures we can take to try to avoid these? We've been washing his paws daily with a medicated shampoo that the vet prescribed but obviously that wasn't enough. This is the second one he's had in three weeks! I guess the only upside is that he's going to be at the vet for a few days so at least I know the paw will be well taken care of.
Any advice would be mostly appreciated....
What are you feeding him?
Sometimes food can be a factor.
Ok. this may not be a do-able idea for you
Ever since we went raw...no cysts.
However before we went raw, i soaked his paws in epsom salt and also wiped in between his toes with apple cidar vinegar then dabbed with neosporin.
Hope this helps and i'm sorry...i know they are painful and irritating to your lil bubby.
JOEYBAGOFDONUT'S MOM
I think someone recommended Preparation H
You may want to do a search tho.
Hope the little guy gets better quickly.
i think tuffy
and cooper are related! they have all the exact same issues! i tried different things on cooper & what works best for him is, again, witch hazel. i don't know if anyone else uses it for idc's, but i tried it & it seems to get rid of them faster. it's supposed to be good for skin issues, so it can't hurt. good luck & have a nice vacation =)
Becky, I totally agree with you!
Whenever Tuffy gets an ailment, I ask myself "hmmm...I wonder if Cooper has dealt with this." And sure enough he has! Getting these bully boo-boos is a headache and I wouldn't wish it on anybody but I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this!
That would be me...
we always used prep H for IDC's and it clears them up in a couple of days. Just put it on 3 times a day, but don't do soaks if you use the prep H.
Epsom Salt Soak......
I take a medium sized stainless mixing bowl, fill it half way with warm water and dump in some epsom salt. I soak the foot for 10 minutes, dry it thoroughly, then apply Preparation H on the IDC. You need to do this for a few days at least once a day and it should clear up.
Awesome advice, everyone!
When we pick Tuffy up from the vet tomorrow we will ask about soaking his feet in Epsom salts and also about Witch Hazel and Preparation H. I don't know how I'll get him to soak his feet for 10 minutes so if the vet says okay to the preparation H or the Witch Hazel maybe I'll start there! As for food, he's currently on Purina Rice and Lamb because all the other Hollistic Foods (Natural Balance, LID, C. Natural, Fromm, Wellness) gave him really bad poop. This is the only food that seems to agree with him. But grain free is next on my to-do list for this guy!!
