Great Green Gobs of Gucky Goo

When Gertie, my 7 1/2 year old bully started waking up in the morning with these enormous green gooey boogers in her left I took her to the vet.  I take pictures of whatever is wrong with Gertie and bring them to show her vet while she waits in the car.  Then her vet will come out and look at her through a partially rolled down winto see the problem live and in person - we do this for the simple reason that Gertrude does NOT like the vet and she is not shy or hesitant letting him know that.  She is a sweetheart, but I don't have a single doubt in my mind that she would rip his face off if he touched her.  When she went to Dr. Butchko he made me leave the room and had to use a choke harness to examine her - THAT will never ever happen again.  Point is - I have to be a total paranoid nut job about staying on top of her health (which I was from day 1 so no problem there) and very preventative in an effort to prevent any kind of medical emergency.  The vet gave me an ointment (BACATRACIN, NEOMYCIN POLYMYXIN) and said that if it didnt clear up in 5 days to come back.  it didn't and i did.  Today he gave me 2 different types of eyedrops :  one is NEO-POLY DEXAMETHASONE AND THE OTHER IS NEOMYCIN DEXAMETHASONE HYPROMELLOUSE  - This seems like alot of medication to me.....

My biggest problem is getting the eye drops in her eye.  I have tried EVERYTHING.  Any and all suggestions and ideas would be welcome and very appreciated.

Eye Goop is the worse.

I have to put meds in Sal's eyes everyday and it's always a hassel. I put him between my legs to help hold him still and then try to hold his eye open with one hand and put the drops in. Don't let them just ploop into his eyes as this startles them. Would also like to hear some good suggestions for this as many bullies out there have dry eye.

If you have someone else to help you, might try what my hubby

and I do.  He puts the dog between his legs tightly just behind its shoulders so they can't escape and using his hands he holds the head steady up against his chest if possible.  i pull down the lower lid and gently squeeze a drop of med in the eye.  Hope this helps.  We give lots of praise and a treat after each time we medicate.

Give eye drops when she is asleep.

If you can wait until she is fast asleep, then gently place the eye drop container near the corner of her eye, and like lightening...open eye, squeeze drops:-) Then run:-)

Otherwise, I am not quite sure about how else to give eye drops:-) This works well for me, but Sophia is a heavy sleeper.
