Georgia has been limping on and off for a few weeks. She is weight bearing on it. Still wants jump on the couch--and can with no problem(even though we have been lifting her when we can). Sometimes seems a little stiffer after just getting up and lessens with increased mobility. I have examined her leg all over and it does not seem sensitive to the touch and no lumps and bumps. Today I gave her an asprin to see if it may be an inflamation problem. I don't think it is Hip Dysplasia I had a rotti that had it and it is not presentingwith similar symptoms. It does not seem to be weak. I keep thinking she pulled a muscle at some point and is just reinjuring it before it heals. She plays pretty hard with our big guys at times.I think my game plan will be to crate when we go out(that way she can't play with the big guys) and start giving glucosomine/chondroitin. Asprin for a few days to see if it is inflamation.
Any input or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
Georgia is 1 year and 9 months--would she be past and concern for pano?
Hmmm
when you said, "Sometimes seems a little stiffer after just getting up and lessens with increased mobility" made me think Arthritis but she is so young. Has she had any previous trauma to it that could cause arthritis?
I was was thinking that too
It shouldn't be Pano at her age
She may have a sprain or strain or some type of soft tissue injury. I think your plans are right on track and if after a couple of weeks she is still limping then it might be time for a Vet visit.
Thanks.
I hope thats all it is. After having a rotti pup with such bad HD we had to let him go at 6 months he was in so much pain. We were all set to operate ndt the vet called and said that since the last xray (month) the condition changed so much that he was uncomfortable performing the procedure because he feared not getting any results at all.Broke my heart.
Same with mine
Hi Michelle - my bulldog is just over 2 years (Capt. Rhett Butler is his full name; I'm from Georgia and went to UGA!) and has exactly what you've described lately too. We notice the limp on his right leg mostly first thing in morning - like he needs to stretch better after sleeping on it - and after running around doing "crazy dog." It seems to come and go and he never whines when I manipulate it. We've come to the conclusion that he just gets stiff and has to work it out. Of course, crate rest makes it better. If it starts getting worse or lasting more than a few days, we will probably take him to the vet. But for now, just seems like stiffness or pulled muscle.
