Fractured growth plate

Hi. My boyfriend and I got a little bulldog boy, Louie, last month. He is 18 weeks old and today he fell and fractured his back leg growth plate in two places. He's getting surgery tmrw- I'm freaking out and looking to see if this/something similar has happened to anyone else. I'm not entirely sure what to expect when he gets home and in the future.

haven't dealt with it in a bulldog...

but one of my boyfriend's nephews managed to have a similar break in his leg.  2 years later the kid is a freaking GIANT at 16 years old and nearly 6 feet tall...so while it's very scary and upsetting, I think your pup will be just fine. :)  Winston and I are definitely sending you positive thoughts for a successful surgery and quick heal time for your sweet pup!

Fractured growth plate

My very first bulldog had this happen to her as a 6 mon. pup.  She was playing with my kid and ran down the steps to fast. It was her front leg so I don't know if that makes a difference.  She was put on crate rest and pain meds.  Now this was many years ago.  She was fine and lived to a ripe old age of 12 1/2.  I hope everything works out.

I have a mixed breed puppy that had his right hind leg crushed.

It broke the growth plate in several places and the only option for him was amputation. He was 6 weeks old at the time. I adopted him the day after the surgery.

Sadly when the growth plate is broken it isn't a good thing for the dog. Could mean loss of use of the leg eventually. That may not be the case with your pup though. Let us know how he does.

that reminds me!

How is the sweet pup doing??  We haven't seen any recent pics of him, I bet he's grown like a weed since the last time you put a few up.  Are he and Sophie still bff?? :)

A young pup from my 1st

A young pup from my 1st litter had a 'greenstick' fracture to the growth plate in her right front leg, near the wrist area. I took her to an Orthopedic Surgeon for a consultation and he said it wasn't too bad in comparison to some he had seen and didn't recommend any surgery for it. As she grew that paw turned slightly outward and more so as she got older. It never affected her walking, running, etc., just looked odd.
