food question

has anyone tried dehydrated food? is it worth the expense or is it better to make your own?

I have tried it

my dog was having issues with dry food (vomiting among other things) and I switched her to raw, but did try dehydrated as training treats. She still had the vomiting issues with the dehydrated, plus it was SUPER high protein. Very very expensive too. Very expensive. We make our own raw now, it's way more cost effective.

Your calculate cost

So Cathy what do you calculate your raw is costing you for Audrey monthly?  Have you figured a per pound cost?

We have a butcher that actually does raw for dogs and I'm going to check and see what their price per pound cost is compaired to the Natures Variety patties.

My husband is the shopper

so I don't know for certain. I know that since we lost our other 2 dogs and Audrey is the only one now, he isn't really concerned with the cost as much. We both figure that even if he spends a bit more per pound on occasion, it is STILL much less than what our dog food bill used to be. She eats beef mostly and some pork, with chopped chicken for the bone. And her organs, beef and chicken liver, beef kidney. I think he pays around $1.99-$2.50 per pound on average.  But remember that is a mostly beef diet, at grocery store prices.  (She had steak for dinner tonight and will finish the rest for breakfast.) It is definitely less than pre-made frozen raw, AND it's pure meat, no veggies.
