I was wondering if anybody has ever had any issues with Frontline Flea medicine?
Is it bad in any way to use it every 2/3 weeks on your bullies. Per Dermotologist we should be using it that often to elimininate our bullies skin issues dont have to do with Flea bites. My wife thinks it will be bad to use it that often on bullies because Frontline is a poison. Is she correct ??
Also was given a bag of Iams Veterinary Formula " Skin & Coat ". Has anybody tried this food and had good results??
Thanks
I had one bulldog that was allergic to Frontline...
He broke out in hives and since it was long lasting, they continued for almost 3 weeks. Fortunately, we don't have much of a flea problem in Phoenix, it's too bloody hot for them.
what? 2 to 3 weeks
it is a posion that seeps into your dogs blood stream....frontline is one of the worst products out their....research it on the computer dogs have died from it....using it to clear up a coat condition makes no sense to me.....
what is the problem with your dogs coat......tell us about that...and maybe a few of us can help out a bit....
Max & Lola
Ok heres how everything started. Lola and Max have always had issues with Allergies. Took to our regular vet Butchko and got the same medications as always.Aller Chlor, Amoxicillin, Nizoral, Chlorketo medicated soap. After we finish all meds still had hot spots, bumps and patches of hair falling off of Lola. Max doesnt have as bad as LOLA. But Max's paws are really red in between his toes and under his paws.Everyday he practically chews on his feet and makes them worst.Wife but some pads that seem to help him stop for a while. Late at night he when he wakes up from his crate he cries cause he wants out and wants to go sleep in the bed with us but when I let him do that he comes to bed only to start chewing on his paws leaving the bed all wet from all his licking he does. So I took them to dermitologist. I had taken Lola once before because she had real bad skin issues. So this time I took both of them.Doctor checked them and felt it is normal Allergy problems. So he said we need to start attacking one by one.So he gave me Doxycillin for Lola and Max because that was same med I got the first time I took Lola in and cleared her issues up. Also gave me medicated shampoo, a spray for Max's paws that doesn't seem to work , and a bag of the Iam's food. Right now we are feeding the natural balance sweet potatoe with chicken Allergy Free formula. So before we took to vet we started thinking that maybe its the food again thats affecting them. So thats were my question came up about if anyone has tried the Iams veterinary Formula for skin & coat.It has kangaroo in it but it's pricy. So I am about to run out of the natural balance so we are not sure if we should start them on the Iam's or change to another Natural balance food like duck.
Now regarding the Flea medicine the doctor said that he thinks if I put medicne on them every 2/3 weeks instaed ofthe 1 a month like the box says it would help if fleas are biting them when they are outside. Now thats were we went like what??? and were wifey said he is crazy because Frontline is poison and will just make them feel bad or can damage them. Which I can agree. doctor recommended we use VECTRA but is pricy or Advantage 2.and he also said that it doesn't affect there health.
We also know that the grass can be the issue and the inside of the house , soap detergents. Just driving us crazy not knowing what really causes there allergies.
Thats all I remeber for now.
Maximus is 8 years old and Lola is 7. Both are fixed.
Thanks
Wow, I wouldn't go back to that dermatologist
overdosing a dog on flea preventive and giving Iams dog food doesn't seem like a good remedy.
If these were my dogs, I would discontinue the meds, give Benedryl for the itching and switch foods to something like Wellness Fish and Potato. I have had great luck with giving it to all my rescue dogs. Anything with corn in it has adverse effects on my dogs, itching, ear infections etc.,
Best of luck and its great that you were concerned enough to question the vets instead of just blindly following their advise.

You could find an allergist
and get them allergy tested. Its a blood test and will show everything they are allergic to. Just a thought.
My boy has allergies and I have him on zyrtec.
Allergist
The dermotalist can also do Allergy testing but can't afford to do that just yet. $500 each bully is to much for us right now.
I understand your pain
Skin issues - Dallas is having the same type of issues you are describe regarding the hive like bumps/small patches of hair and scratching (not that bad on the scratching issue tho). I took him to a different Vet Sat. (one who focus on the dermatology side) and was told it looks more like a yeast infection. There was some indication in his ears, between his paws, and neck. I was also told - what causes the hive like bumps means there is some sort of infection in the hair follicle. My dog is on: Ketoconazole, Mometamax Otic Suspension, and Cephalexin. I can say Cephalexin did help the hive like bumps (kept it to a minimum) on his first round of it a month ago. I've been doing some reading and I see that Malaseb shampoo is highly recommended for dog's skin issues such as yeast (thanks you - to the good folks on this forum for sharing). I just got my bottle, so I will share the outcome if anyone cares to know.
