If you wanted to figure it out
you could stop the glucosamine for a bit and see if that stops the face rubbing. My MOTHER is allergic to Glucosamine. I thought it was so odd, but I guess it can happen.
Food allergies can manifest as itching...
also can cause stomach problems, vomiting, diarrhea. Allergies can also be environmental, especially this time of year. Newman is itchy because our bermuda grass is germinating, he licks his feet a lot. Also rug shampoos, detergents, bug sprays, floor cleaners, the list is endless. You could try some benedryl to help with the itching, if he's 50 pounds, he can have two 25 mg tablets.
food allergies
or food intolerance can show as
face itching
gooky eyes/nose rope
feet licking
ear infections
general skin itchiness
vomiting
diarrhea
It may be from ANY of the ingredients/additives in the food
For my dog she has a difficult time digesting cooked or processed food. She can eat a raw steak and have no problems but a cooked steak will make her vomit. She needs meat in it's simplest to digest form.

food allergies
Hello, my vet suspected food allergies on my bully and I had him allergy tested (serum). This gave a list of food and environmental allergies. I switched to Wellness salmon and rice (although he doesn't like it as much as of late). I have been really strict about his diet and with his recent skin problems, I ended up bringing him to a dermatologist/allergy vet at the local university. She says that food allergy testing via blood test isn't reliable at all. If I were you, I would start doing elimination diets, maybe switch to a rare protein (duck, fish, rabbit) with rice or potato and see if the pup can handle this. The fewer amount of ingredients in the dog food, the better off you will be in figuring out if your pup has a true allergy to food.
