Follow up with Oscar, he might have an eye ulcer, HELP!!

I just noticed Oscar may have scratched his eyeball with his whole bugbite/bee sting ordeal yesterday!! His left eyeball looks like he has a red mark on it & he keeps squinting it :o(

I'm definitely calling the vet tomorrow but was wondering if there is anything I can do so this doesn't get worse!!

Thanks

Ointment

Put antibiotic eye ointment (no cortisone) in several times a day.  If you don't have that, get some GenTeal severe dry eye ointment and keep putting that in until you get to the vet.  Good luck!

no personal experience but

I know Holland75's James just went through a HUGE ordeal with an eye ulcer that just wouldn't heal properly.  I bet she can offer some insight having just been through the whole thing.  From what I gathered reading about her experience the most important thing besides seeing a vet and getting medication ASAP is preventing Oscar from rubbing the eye and causing further damage...  I know James fought the eye drops from the vet, hopefully Oscar will allow you to get those in his eye so his scratch/ulcer doesn't progress.

Good luck and please keep us posted!!

NO>>>>

never never self medicate a eye...eye problems are a seriouse medical issue only your vet should deal with.....many oniments will  make an ulcer worse....go to the vet asap...i would not make an emergency appt but i would get in asap....

i have delt with eye problems...and only a vet should deal with it....many over the counter products will worsen the problem

Ozzy had a ulcer a couple of years ago

Get to the vet.  His regular vet treated it with follow-up 3 days later.  At the follow up it was not healing and we had to take him to Tufts to see the eye specialist.  This was on a Monday--that kept him (mainly to keep him quiet and to watch him) and he had surgery on Tuesday afternoon and came home Friday.  He had to wear the cone of shame for 6 weeks but thankfully the surgery worked.

We were told if we had put it off a couple of days--the ulcer could have ruptured and he would have lost his sight in that eye.

I agree. You don't know if the meds you have on hand will help..

But there is a good possibility they won't help but will only make it worse. Go see your vet but don't put anything in the eye yourself until the vet tells you what to do.

Bring him to Dr. Templeton Maria....

do not fool around with eyes.  He will do a dye test and give you the correct meds.
