I recently acquired a three year old Bulldog with rust color gunk
Between her wrinkles and in her deep tail socket. I clean her every day with water and antibacterial soap the rust will not go away, also she constantly licks her feet and when I checked her toes for sores I found none but noticed her poor little pads are peeling and flaking. The vet gave me a soak for her for a week and the pads are not healing because of her licking. I feel terrible for her can anyone offer advice? Also I was thinking it may be allergy is benadryl safe for long term use?
also the fleas aren't responding to topical flea treatment I've tried different kinds and it just isn't working any advice or help would be wonderful!
Thank you mindy
Good Times
Sounds like she may have
A problem with yeast. Q had major issues (bad tear stains, itchy feet, etc) when he was eating food with grains. We went grain free, and everything cleared up.
I would definitely give her the benadryl - it should help with the itchies. What was the soak the vet ordered? Is it something for the dryness, or does it address the yeasty beasties?
As for the topical flea treatment, what are you using? Dogs can develop resistance to Frontline, Advantix, etc. If you want to avoid pesticides, you may want to consider an all-natural spray. I've used Equisect and Green Shield with great results - they're horse sprays made from plant extracts. The only thing, you have to apply fairly frequently. Also, if there are fleas in your house, it needs to be treated. You may have to repeat treatment in the house in 2-3 weeks when the eggs hatch.
