eyes....again....

hey everyone-- james eye may be acting up again...heres the background info:  he had an indolent ulcer in one eye, and after a month of no success with drpos we sewed it shut and did the ointment.  doctor also did entropian eye surgery on the bottom lids (both eyes)  that was about 2 months ago when he was 7 months old.  all has been well since.

now, he seems to be rubbing his one eye an awful lot. obviously i am paranoid. .. is there any way to identify if he has something going on with his eye?  he had a tiny hair in it this morning (on the retina) but i flushed it with some visine and did not see it again.  if there were some symptoms i could identify i would know better what i was dealng with.

Somewhere along the way...

I remember hearing not to use Visine for dogs, don't know why though.  I would wash it out with plain saline solution like you would use for contact lenses.  It may have just been irritated from the lash, does he still seem bothered by it?  When Oreo had an ulcer, I could actually see it, it looked like a red line in the pupil of her eye.  Hope it's nothing serious.

I was told by my vet to use plain Visine for Sophie...

I think it is the formulas for special use that you aren't supposed to use.

yeah, i remember don't use visine either...

i think you are suppose to use the one that is like artificial tears or something like that. do you think it may just be allergies or pollen or dust or something? kibby had a winking eye issue for a while. it turned out to allergies.  she did have a scratch on her eye (iris?) before, but i read online there that there was nothing you could do except put the ointment on it for a while. neo poly bac, i think, it works well anytime kibby has a minor eye irritation

I go to a very reputable Bulldog vet. He told me plainly to use

Visine for Sophia's eyes if her allergies get bad. Plain Visine.

Has he been seen by an Opthamologist?

If not, I suggest a check-up with a good Opthamologist. Is he squinting his eyes any? The squinting would most likely indicate pain. Also, a possible side effect of the entropian surgery is dry eye. You might want to have his tear production checked.

oh no! Poor James!

and poor Mommy!  I don't have any advice or tips, but Winston and I are definitely sending good thoughts out to you and James.  I really hope you two don't have to go through anything more like last time!  Poor guy!

visine is fine use dry eye.....now answer me this....

is he drinking enough water...dont say i think so...wilson eyes will close up and get all red and he rubs them like crazy....guess what it was from not drinking enough water...i bought him a water fountain and he loves it and i have not had him rubbing his eyes..their not all red ......my vet was at a loss also....and this is what it was...he was dehydrated enough we had to give him fluids.....

so as silly as it seems make sure he is drinking....fill a gallon jug up and  give him drinks from it...i just bet you the eye problem  gets better.....as long as their is no ulcer

also did the vet check under the upper eye lids for hair? charlie had to have hair removed from under his upper eye lids as they were casuing a ulcer.....
