My best buddy, Diesel is a 2 year old English Bulldog. He recently developed these nasty green "eye boogers". Not just in the morning. Several times a day. He has never had this before. We thought it may be his food at first. Food is always the number one suspect. He has been on Blue Buffalo from day one. We took him off of the chicken because of skin reactions. Placed him on the lamb and his tearing became out of control. Now he is on salmon/potato. His tearing problem went away. His face is now back to the pretty white vs. brown tear patches. He has been on this food for a little over three months. The goop began about a month ago. It is in both eyes. Not always at the same time. There are no lesions of cysts present. No entropic or cherry eye symptoms. Anyone have any Idea of what I can do?
(Old picture. Tear stains are gone now)
Hopefully he's not developing dry eye.....
but the green discharge does suggest infection. You need to use the triple antibiotic opthalmic ointment (no cortisone). This is a prescription medication. Maybe he should get his tears checked by the vet as well. Good luck.
my girl has the same thing
I just came from my vet because my 3 yrs old had the same thing, she was diagnosed with dry eye. This has been a battle for about 6 months...ive tried all the over the counter stuff and it didnt work...hopefully the medicine will...
could be allergies
Just simple seasonal allergies. I'd recommend going to your vet and really making sure you don't have any eye issues (like entropian or developing dry eye) and if everything checks out there I'd guess allergies. But the fact that they're greenish in color concerns me and definitely warrants a trip to the vet to make sure there isn't something serious going on.
Your boy is SUPER cute! :) I'd love to see more pics of him!!
Shannon and Winston :)
My swimming bully buddy!
Yep, allergies
Went to the Vet the other day for an "emergency". Diesel had "Hot Spots". Nasty things. They develope within hours and drain a smelly brown puss. Lots of puss. Vet said nothing to worry about. Cleared up in 2 days with meds. Scared me. I am a provider at a small clinic and it reminded me of MRSA. Turns out this is common in dogs with lots of folds. Lesson learned: Never use a Furminator on a wet bully. Makes micro cuts that can get infected due to the "wet dog". I tried to comb him after his bath. Bad idea. The eyes have all but cleared up. Must have been something in the yard or a new toy. Don't know. Thanks everyone for he advise
