This has happened twice, under totally different circumstances. All of a sudden, Riley starts drooling - dripping puddles underneath her. Her neck will be soaked with drool.
The first time it happened for several hours when we were travelling, so I chalked it up to stress. It started early in the day after eating nothing.
Tonight, it started while we were at home, with nothing to cause stress, right after a normal supper for her.
She is on a raw food diet, with some grain free Orijen dry food, and had not eaten anything out of the normal. I always go outside with her, as we have a pool, so she couldn't have gotten into anything outside.
Anyone experience this???
Thanks!
We used to have this problem with Chester...
quite frequently. He would start licking the air and then the drool would start, buckets of it, for usually 1/2 hour, sometimes up to 2 hours. We figured it was either nausea or pain (he has a couple of hemivertibrae in his back that can cause him pain if he plays too hard). I have to say he is a lot better since he had palate surgery, but I don't think that was the cause of it. Check her mouth carefully to see if there is anything lodged between her teeth or under the flaps. My lhasa had a drooling fit one time in my office and it turned out he had a paper clip wrapped around his back tooth.
I agree with the pain thing,
I agree with the pain thing, that's what came to mind fist thing for me.
nausea or pain
Drooling during car rides is nausea, car sickness. Others times it could be either one. Does she have a temp? If not and acting normal and it goes away I wouldn't worry too much and I would just monitor her. Likely a little nausea or tummy ache. If it continues a vet trip is in order.
She has gone on lots of car
She has gone on lots of car rides and loves them. No drooling. This was an extra long one, but it started right away, within about 15 minutes of leavng.
She has had palate surgery, and is currently on antibiotics for a skin issue, so I don't think she is sick.
Possibly pain, possibly nausea, but we didn't do anything or go anywhere before it started. It stops as fast as it starts.
Thank you all for your input. I'll keep watching her.
