Elbow Scope
Submitted by animal005 on August 31, 2011 - 6:20pmJust made an appointment for Winnie to have her elbow scope done Tuesday. She was diagnosed with bad arthritis a little over two months ago and is still limping. We had another set of xrays done and she may have chipped off a piece of bone. We have tried a couple different meds, acupuncture, glucos vitamins. Our vet thinks the scope is our next option. I was sure this was the route to take, but then get worried due to having her put under. That way we know for use what it is. He has also suggested that if nothing but the arthritis shows maybe doing stem cell shots. I still have to research this, since I haven't heard of this before. I research everything on our animals, which doesn't help either. Has anyone heard of stem cells being used in dogs for arthritis?

but I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking good thoughts for you two! I hope you and your vet are able to find out the cause of the problem and find some relief for your sweet pup!

A big GSD with artritis in his elbow had this treatment. It didn't do much for this dog. I believe only 40% have good result... and it is expensive!
How old is Winnie?
One of my old boys was diagnosed with bad elbows (artrose/artritis) aged 8 years old. Medication didn't do much and we ended up with acupuncture and this gave Charly another 3 years. He was limited, but could do short walks and plays. He had a good life, without much pain....

Winnie is 7 years. The acupuncture doesn't seem to be doing anything, except she is regrowing hair on her tail where is had fallen out. She hates it also. She will start out with 20 needles and end up with 4 by the end. She is getting her scope done today, so we are hoping for the best.
The stem cell shot I think is around $300 and would need two shots. I started to do some research last night, but I think some of that information is from last year and the prices have gone done from what the internet has.
