Moose is 4 months old and eats his food really fast. Yesterday he threw alot of it up after his dinner meal. I was wondering what I can do to get him to slow down? I feed him 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the late afternoon, he weights 20 pounds. Any help would be appreciated...thanks!
There is a few things you can do
And I'm sure you'll get a lot of great responses.
First, I always soak my food in warm water.
You can add tennis balls or large rocks to the bowl. He'll have to eat around it and it will take longer. you can spread the food out on a cookie sheet.
Cookie sheets worked great for Farley and when he got older
I got the stainless steel slow down bowls. He still has to use that one.
We used the cookie sheet and it worked...
we would just spread the food out on it and it took him a while to get it all. Otherwise, he would choke and I was afraid he would aspirate.
Muffin Pan
Our vet said to use a muffin pan. We never tried it but I am sure it would work. Good luck!
Thanks everyone..I went and
Thanks everyone..I went and got a ball thats made for fast eaters and it works great!!! It really slowed Moose down
Just and FYI....we tried the ball thing and rock thing
in Farley's dish..and he figured out how to get them out of the bowls in no time. We did the puzzle ball too if that is what your talking about and he still gets those.
One thing I forgot to say if you do use a cookie sheet make sure it's stainless steel, the other ones start to rust. I really love the slow down bowls, but get stainless steel in those too.
They make slow feeder bowls but
don't get the plastic one! Also as other say cookie sheets works great. But since Tuffy is a terrified of cookie sheets I used to just spread the kibble out on a placemat with a towl underneath because it gets messy. Tuffy was notorious for gobbling his food down as a pup but he's slowed down a bit now...unless I put scrambled egg in with his kibble. Then he inhales it in less than a minute!
Good luck...
