Ears

Buds kinds acting itchy and I wondered what others use to clean ears.

Brother has wax and some easy to remove stuff sometimes.  Buddy has very clear ears, but is rubbing some, and Brother is checking his ears out.

I have Epi-Otic, and I also have Animax in case I had a bad problem, but I wonder if there is something at home I can use?

I use vinegar and water on his wrinkles.

I'm not trying to be cheap, but I like to use natural products when I can.

Brother, notice "Houndstooth" base board trim.

Steve.

What we use

My vet recommended we use Oti-Soothe (cucumber melon w/ aloe) for Winston's ears for regular cleanings.  He seems to display a lot of itchiness in his ears when his allergies flare up.  For the times that the Oti-Soothe doesn't seem to get everything taken care of we use Mometamax to help knock out the yeast (that's his problem) and help keep the inflamation down.  I know Mometamax has a mild, topical steriod in it in addition to the medication.

Kind of sounds like you're following a very similar routine to ours (just with different brand names).  Are his ears red at all?  Do you see an excessive buildup of wax?  What color is the wax?

If your answers are all "no or not applicable" then I'd wonder if perhaps he isn't dealing with the dry air associated with Winter?  Have you turned on your furnace?  Is it snowing?  Maybe your air in your house is a bit dry and causing the problem.

Just a few musings about possible causes.  I hope you can get it figured out!

Maybe

The furnace is on, I have a humifier though....it's dusty here, and I cleaned the carpet, but with Bissell non allergic cleaning fluid.

It's not bad, but I know it bothers him.

Thanks

Steve

I use Zymox

if there is yeast and Epi otic as well

Don't see yeast

Brother has reddish wax that I can just remove.

Buddy has very clear ears but is tender in one of them right now and messing with it some.

I'm using the Epi-Otic and Animax, I'm gonna order some of the zymox online today.

Thanks

Steve

Reddish wax

is yeast and it can get very deep inside the ear canal.  MacKenzie rarely has problems but the last time I took him to the vet he actually had a glob of the reddish gunk deep down in his ear.  I saw it with their ear scope.  So if they have it in the canal where you can see it, it is likely lower in the ear as well.  Zymox for 7 days will clear it up.

I use Zymox also. nm

Tea tree oil and...Do u guys drop or actually go into the ears ?

I use epi optic, I think, it's the lavender and white bottle but Libby hates it, do I switched the natural tea tree oil kind... Which doesn't seem to helping her dark brown, almost chocolate ear wax. I have asked the vet before and he has told me to only drop in the ear cleaner as directed but I can't see how that would possibly get all the wax out of all the nooks in her ears. I do go in there with flat round cotton pads with the cleaner. Is this wrong?  I doing more damage? I will try the zymox. I also use animax when it looks like things are getting irritated.. I prefer the ottoman but I ran out!
