Ear issue

Today I noticed that Fatboy had some ear build up.  I grabbed the ear cleaner and started to clean.  Well after cleaning I then saw that his ear looked like it was irritated or had a rash.  He hasn't stopped shaking his head because it bothers him.  I am taking him into the vet tomorrow morning but is there anything I can do for him in the meantime?? I feel so bad because (we found out) the more we scratch, the more irritated we make it.

Red, Dry and Scaley

If its these things I have used bag balm with luck and also vet recommended.  Not in the ear but on the inside of the flat of the ear.   You can try anything that is a soothing anti itch, antifungal cream that you have in your medicine cabinet.

We just went thru this with Newman...

Not being at home I had to improvise.  I used 3 parts alcohol to 1 part white vinegar and after he shook it all out, I put some  animax on the rash part. You could also use cortisone cream. Benedryl will help the itch.

We are going thru the same

We are going thru the same thing.  If its red and bumpy on the inside of his ear, its probably a yeast infection.  Super gunky, may be a bactrerial infection...either one, get him to the vet - Beefy's cleared up in less than a week with antibotics and some Baytril.  Good luck!

I know it will soiund weird but...

take hydrogen peroxide, you can put it on cotton ball and saturate it really well.  Put it inside.  He will not like it.  This kills bacteria, it would be good if he could stand to get it squirted inside and sit with it kind of bubbling up, but he will not as he is in discomfort, so at least stick it inside to kill whatever might be there.  Then, depending what is going on, you may just put a light coat of a  hydrocortisone cream on red/itchy part and give him benadryl.  It should stop itching and make him sleepy enough to last through the night.

Hope this helps.  Hugs for your boy.
