ear infection, skin infection and general ickiness

ahhhhhhhh james, celerating one year old day at the  vet.  he has a yeast infection in his ears (looks uncomfortable but solvable) andanother infection or alergic reaction that has his chin looking like hamburger meat and his feet red and itchy.  we switched to hypoalgergenic science diet (from iams).  now we just wait.  any tips or simillar experiences?  oh, and the cephalexin didnt do anything for the chin crap.

What were you feeding him?

IMO, all Science Diet food is horrible. Ketoconazole is a good antibiotic for yeast infections. As for the chin, if you are not using stainless steel bowls for his food and water, please do so. You can also use lixit bottles instead of bowls and his chin will stay dry when he drinks.

I would apply witch hazel three times a day until his chin clears up.
Most of the things you describe are, I believe, food related. I would use a good quality grain free food. I like the grain free salmon from California natural.

science diet is crap......

ears and yeast infection are a grain allergy....if you dont like a raw diet either your own or commerical...i have been directing people to honest kitchen...they have an excellant hyp allergic food....also get ames on some  cod liver tab for omega.....also use witch hazel to dry the chin....or any over the counter zit medication....

get him off science diet before his condition gets worse....

I completely agree with Judy. Science Diet is crap.

I would immediately get him off that stuff. Vets sell it because they aren't nutritionists and don't know squat about dog food in general. Go with what Judy recommended, I would if it were me.
