Ear infection and Cephalexin

We were instructed to give Fatboy one capsule every twelve hours.  So the first two days were OK while he was taking it, but now he's been dry heaving whenever he gets up, moves around, or sleeps.  He eats, pees and poops fine.  But when he gets excited (especially when we come home from work) he is practically incapacitated because of the dry heaving.  He'll throw up food every now and then but it's not very much.

It scares me because I thought he stopped breathing in his sleep last night.  But I think he was just having a harder time breathing.  I've stopped giving him the medication but he seems to not be doing any better (stopped giving him meds on Tuesday night).

I read that vomitting as a normal side effect but this doesn't seem normal.  I didn't get any sleep last night because he was waking up on the hour due to dry heaving.  I don't know what to do to make him more comfortable until this passes, but is this something that won't pass unless I take him to the vet again?? Please help, I'm kind of freaking out over here.

Poor guy.

Not sure what to tell you other than I would be calling my vet pronto. That sounds like a bad reaction to the meds.

Kilmore had bad ear

Kilmore had bad ear infections and had to take Cephalexin, but never had a bad reaction. Sounds like Fatboy isn't doing well on the meds and I would take him into the Vet. Hope his ear infection gets better and he gets feeling better.

I'd call the vet......

and tell them what's going on.  Better safe than sorry!

I give try giving a pepcid

I would give one pepcid 10 mg about 20 minutes before giving the cephalexin. He may be having some drainage that's upsetting his stomach or the pill itself could be the cause. Did the Vet give you any drops for his ears? If not, I would get some.

Pepcid....

I agree with Jacinda.  I do give pepcid to my Bulldog when he gets cephalexin as it upsets his stomach.  In addition, not at the same time as antibiotic, I give yogurt.  Good luck!

Definitely stop giving the meds

Call our vet... What if he is allergic or something? I freak out every time I hear about dry heaving because my other died from bloat. It's like he was trying to throw up but couldn't.

New Prescription maybe

I would have the vet prescribe a different antibiotic. Doyle went through 3 different ones when trying to knock down his IDC last year. Cephalexin was one of them

Glad Jackson wasn't allergic

Glad Jackson wasn't allergic to Cephalexin. When he came down with discospondolytis, he had to be on Chephalexin for 6 months! From three 250mg tabsa day for four months, to two 500mg tabs a day, for two months.
