Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I posted on here for advice..that's a good thing!! I am asking for help now. Gemma's eyes have been cloudy lately and seem itchy. I asked the vet and she said she seems to have ulcers on them..maybe it's that she had a previous ulcer, I'm not sure. She said these were probably caused by dry eyes. I already know she has inverted eye lashes and I'm sure this is part of the issue. The vet said they had
Some eye drops I could buy but I wanted to hear others opinions before I got an Rx. Maybe there is something OTC that I can get to help her??
Thanks,
Lisa
They usually need the prescription eye drops for dry eye...
I think our old gal was on cyclosporin for a while. Over the counter meds just don't work and some of them can cause damage like visine.
Drops and Gel
We had to use drops from the vet that we pricey. I think it was cyclosporin and then we got a tear gel at Target pharmacy. We had to use both to keep his eye looking good. The gel was to keep the eye lubricated and the drops were to help the dry eye. Twice a year we had to take him to the bulldog specialist, because the he had the good drops. I don't remember what those drops were called and after he passed we tossed out all of those items.

Did they test with strips?
I just brought Cooper in to see his vet on Friday because I was concerned he seems to have alot more eye boogers lately that coat his eye and sit there.
I was worried he might have dry eye so they stick these strips in the outer corners to see how much tear production they have . The strips turn blue to show if they have sufficient amount of tears. He did , so I'm still not sure whats going on? But I feel confident it's not dry eye.
Dry Eye Test & Green Dye Test
Did the vet not test for ulcers? She should have used a green stain dye/darkened the room and looked for ulcers. Then she should have perscribed an eye ointment. You need to have the eye lash issue resolved. They can be causing eye ulcers. Ulcers are painful and if she is cloudy eyed already she is in danger of loosing her eye sight.
The the vet should have also tested for dry eye.
Cleo has dry eye and we have found that Optumune or a PolyBac Ointmint works best for her. Cyclosporine is also commonly used for dry eye. To easy her pain and the dyness you can use an over the counter liquid tears eye drop. BUT I would caution you to self medicate since she might have ulcers.
If your vet had no clue what to do with her I would find another vet that does.
Thanks for all the advice! I
Thanks for all the advice! I did just call the vet and at this point, she thinks it is just dry eyes. She said she didn't see further damage, if she would have she would have recommend the surgery to remove the lashes. the corneia didn't look at all damaged. I guess I'll just dry the special drops for now. I had taken her to the vet for another issue and just happened to mention this. Oh dear, bullies are job security for vets!!!!
