Hi! Sally is now 1 year old and I was told by a bulldog breeder that normally it is rare for "younger" bulldogs to have dry eye. Does anyone have an opinion about this? Per the canine opthamologist, I give her Cyclosporene 2x day for 'dry eye". She also just had surgery last month (2nd time) for entropian, and also double cherry eye and distacia on lids. Even after 1 month post op, she still wants to rub her eyes first thing in the morning. I tried giving her Benedryl at night, but all that seemed to do was make her sleepy, she still rubbed her eyes in the morning. Any suggestions? Deanne

That is young for
dry eye...but with all that she has had done re. surgeries it is certainly possible. Does your breeder have Eye Certs done on their dogs before they breed?
I would consider using a different eye drop. Have you tried using Poly Bac B instead of the Cyclosporine?
No Eye Certs from Breeder
We made the mistake of buying her from a "hobby" breeder, not a full time reputable breeder. Nonetheless, we love Sally dearly and will help her in any way possible! What is the difference between Poly Bac B and Cyclosporine? I tried giving her a drop of Opcon A this am, but that made her rub her eyes even more! Perhaps it burned???

Do you have regular saline solution on hand
to irrigate the eyes and clean out any debris? From the contact lense dept. Chum doesn't blink or wink when I put his drops in. Have you tried plain Artificial Tears with out redness reliever?

Young but not unheard of
Like Deb said especially considering the previous surgeries. I would either continue with the cyclosporine and add in neo poly bac or try Tacrolimus.
Questions for the curious
Are these Rx meds? In MN we can't call the vet and get meds without bringing our dog in to be seen by the vet. And are these the ones that are steriods like Poly Dex?
Just Curious :/ Thanks ladies!

Katie
Yes the Cyclosporine and Poly Bac are both perscription drugs. My vet will give me 6 refills at a time. The Poly Bac comes with or without a steriod. You use the one without the steroid for dry eye.
Thanks
Never thought of refills! Duh!? Lol

Ozzy
All this Ozzy went through at 18 months and he is on cyclosporin 2x a day.
Yes, I flush both eyes in am and pm
Been doing this for about a week or so using eye wash from vet's office.
