Does this look like allergies...or hormonal zits?

This is how poor Tuffy looked on Saturday. The redness around his muzzle has gone away and we're treating his red, yeasty face fold with medicated wipes and daiper ointment but do the breakouts around his mouth and chin  look like an allergic reaction or just plain old bulldog acne....?

That doesn't look like just normal acne to me...

On the chin - yeah.  But the lips?  Not so sure... Plus, there looks to be some irritation in the eye fold?

I would be hesitant to use clearasil on the lips (since he'll be licking them).  Maybe some listerine twice daily.  But, if you don't see improvement in a few days, I would consider going to the vet for antibiotic (probably keflex).  It doesn't look like allergy, to me.

You may want to put a schmear (not to be confused with smear! lol) of diaper rash ointment in that fold to protect it from moisture.  If you're using peroxide to wipe it, make sure you follow with a swipe of plain water on a cotton ball to rinse, pat dry, then some diaper ointment. :)

Thanks, rottigirl!

The red fold (which I hadn't noticed until the photo!) is being treated with the Boudreaux's Butt Paste after cleaning so it looks fine now. I've elimated all bully sticks and (extras) and am not even giving him any cow ears or anything to chew to see if this redness around his muzzle and lips is  food related. I'm giving it another week and then if it's bad again I'll bring him back tot he vet and ask about keflex. It's weird, sometimes his lips/muzzle get red and then it goes away. I notice it more inflamed after rough play and at night. When he came back from 5 days of boarding at the vet his face looked great and now that he's home he is having problems again. All he got at the vet was kibble and his biscuits so I'm thinking something around my house is not agreeing with him!

Thanks for the suggestion about Listerine. I'll give it a shot!

That's what Milton was like

Milton was starting to get the redness on his lip as well as the acne/boils from the staph that got into his chin -- I can tell you that he's on doxycycline and 10mg of prednisone a day and hasn't had as much as one pimple or one pink inflamed spot in 2 weeks.  :(  Poor guy!

So glad to hear that Milton is doing better

I mentioned the prednisone but the vet said he wants to try taking away the toys first to see if it helps. What kind of toys do you give Milton now?

Milton has lots of toys but his faves are...

... a large-size Nylabone chew bone:

a Kong that I fill with pieces of Nutro super crunchy treats about 2x a week,

a Kong Wubba, large size:

He has other toys like rope toys and tennis balls but he's just not interested in them.

Poor poor Tuffy mcTuff Tuff!  I hope your chin's better soon, bud!

We have those as well!

We have those as well! Matilda likes them, but when she settles down for the evening her favorite thing to do is nurse on a soft fleece toy. It is ALWAYS wet and I think this is problematic because then she hugs it and falls asleep. I hate to take it away because she likes it so much.
