Does Anyone know why he is doing this?

Every now and then my 4 month old Bulldog stops what he is doing and does this hyper ventilating like snorting noise like he's trying to clear his airway... kinda like a repetative hacking up a loogey noise. It lasts maybe 5 to 10 seconds.

Just wondering if this is normal, if anyone one else has experienced this and if there anything I can do to stop it?

It could be a reverse sneeze...

very common in bulldogs and other breeds.  Our lhasa used to do it, it sounded almost like a honking sound and it seemed like he couldn't get air in.  I would gently lay my finger across his nostrils and he would stop.  It's harmless but sounds pretty scary.

Yep normal

I usually massage his throat a little to help it.  =)

Tank does this too. Vet says it's completely normal, and part of the breed traits. Don't feel bad, mine normal completes his ritual by running up and sneezing afterwards into either mine or my husbands face. ;)
