Our 7 mo. old puppy just about always regurgitates her food right after eating. I have tried feeding her smaller kibbles (Natural Balance - Small breed Original formula); giving her smaller meals (4x day); raising her food bowl. I have tried everything! I know she has a small trachea. 2 wks ago she had eye surgery (entropian-both lowers) and soft palate correction) It's almost like she is not chewing the food, just enhaling it whole, then it comes right back up. She is always phemy and foamy first thing in the morning. I've talked to the vet about this everytime I see him; but nothing seems to help. I don't think she's allergic to her food. We've tried Eukanuba, Solid Gold, Blue Buffalo - she chokes up every type of food. The only thing I haven't tried yet is canned food. Does anybody else have this problem?

Maybe try a slow down bowl or feed her on a cookie sheet so
that she can eat slower because her food won't be all in one place and she can't just gulp it down.
I will try the slow down bowl.
The vet did recommend this also. Does anyone think there is something "medically" wrong with her?

start giving a
tums before her meals...one tum before a meal will help....give a very lite snack before bedtime....a biscute will do.....
Why a light snack?
I try not to feed Sally too close to bedtime because she gets sooooo congested while she sleeps. I'm still wondering if I should take her to a respiratory specialist and have her checked out. She is soo phemy and congested after sleeping for long periods. This bully of mine has me stumped!

kibby inhales food too...
i found that the cookie sheet definitely works.. it makes them pick up only one or 2 kibbles at a time..
i usually mix their food with a little wet food, but then realized that that only made the food too delicious, so they would eat it faster.. so i would put a small scoop in the corner of the cookie sheet, then dry food everywhere else.
i also moved the other dogs food across the room , so now there is no more need for speed and competition!
once kibby got use to eating at a normal pace, i put slowly moved it into a flat bottom dish.
good luck!

Did Kibby regurgitate every time?
How long did you have to use the cookie sheet until you switched to a flat bottom bowl? I tried giving Sally canned food this weekend - still she would "spit up" the food right after. Perhaps not as much as dry food, but still spit it up. This is so frustrating! I will try a cookie sheet.

no, not everytime..
only if she was too excited.. i try to walk them first.. then make them rest before every meal.. rest meaning to the point where she is no longer panting all crazy (15-30 mins). I noticed if i feed her right after playing, she will have gas, sometimes burping really big- thus upchucking some food..
i had to feed her on the cookie sheet.. and totally spread out her food, for about a month.. then i put the flat bottom bowl on the cookie sheet, and then slowly put more and more of the food in there , weekly..for another month.. til she could eat like a normal dog.. she still eats fast but at least she is not throwing up.
maybe you will have to go even further and feed your dog smaller portions, within the meal, to make sure its really not the food, and it is hopefully just the pace at which she is eating. like maybe experiment and do a quarter portion every 5-10 mins, just so the food in her has a chance to go down and stay down for a bit. i think if your bully is still throwing up even after that, then maybe its something else wrong? the food or an irritated tummy in need of more sensitive food? has the vet ever done an xray to be sure its not pancreatitus or something blocking ?

or maye try soaking kibble in a little water to make it soft?
i just reread your post and realized you are dealing with a puppy. my puppy use to get too excited and puke all the time... but since she was a puppy, there really wast any way to make her not excited... so i had to adjust her feeding schedule..to like right when she woke up, so she would be a little less energetic!

Thanks for your help - I am dealing with an almost 8 mo. old!
She is soooo spastic, especially when she knows its time to eat. She gets all crazy and jumping. I feel like she is starving to death; there is no way to calm her down! Do you think this is something she will just outgrow? Her tongue is so big she does NOT chew her food. She swishes it around and swallows her food whole. She doesn't take the time to chew. Also, first thing in the morning she has alot of mucus and phelm in her throat or stomach, so any amount of food I feed her comes right back up with the mucus. I'm not sure why she has so much mucus, unless it's from snoring so much all night long. She even had soft palate correction 3 weeks ago. Deanne
