Diarrhea

Can't believe I'm down this road again. Tuffy came back from two days of boarding with very loose stool (even for him!) After a few days of decreasing his kibble amount and putting him on diabac there was still no relief. I called the vet and she said to do a mixture of half white rice and half kibble and to give him 2 mg of immodium to see if it helps. Otherwise she'll need to put him on a prescription antibiotic. Unfortunately Tuffy hates the rice (even mixed with some chicken broth) so I tried mixing in some potato. It's only improved slightly. The poop will start off solid but then turn to mush (not liquid just soft serve).

Any advice on what to do next? Put him on a bland diet? I've been wanting to change his kibble for a while now and believe it is the cause of the loose stool but I know I need to wait till his tummy is more normal. If I put him on a bland diet can I then transition him to this new food cold turkey or go the traditional route of old with the new?

Thanks!

I would go with the bland diet and...

add a little canned pumpkin to each meal.

I would

do the bland rice and boiled chicken for a few meals and then the new food mixed in for a few days to the rice and chicken since his poops are so bad and he won't eat the rice alone.

Thanks for the advice! Tuffy update.

Went on a bland diet and he's back to his old self. I think I figured out the problem. Too many table scraps on top of the Cephalexin. So now he's off both and has a strict diet of just kibble and dog biscuits. I'm going to start transitioning to the new food now.
