Dangers of putting a bulldog under for surgery?

My 6year old Bully, Casey, has a polyp in her prostate and the only solution is to have it removed. To do so means she will be put under anesthesia and my wife and I worry that she will come out of this as a different dog. Does anyone know if there are known effects from these dogs being put under? does it change their behavior afterwards? She is such a good tempered dog, especially around the children, that we would hate to see a change. Thanks for any advice you may have regarding the anesthesia and/or the removal of the polyp. Kevin
There are things you can do to help here get through it...
First of all, don't feed her for 12 to 18 hours before surgery to minimize the chance of vomiting. Don't let them give her ACE to sedate her, they will probably use a general anesthetic and should use Isoflurane or Sevoflurane. Make sure that someone is with her after surgery until the breathing tube is removed and she is awake. Is she spayed or are they doing that at the same time? My guys have all been through one kind of surgery or another and they are all just their same old happy selves afterward, it just take a day or two to get back to normal.

Mr. Higgins is the poster boy for anesthesia
He has gone through 6 surgeries, one an hour and a half long (knee surgery with patella removal+ACL repair , palate resection and saccules all at once) neuter, bilateral cherry eye, 2 more luxating patella surgeries and lastly ear hematoma surgery last October. He will be 7 in August. Healthy now and extremely happy, friendly, loving. O.K I will stop bragging. Just a sweetie and amazing.
