On cyclosporin and vaccines

I need some opinions about giving vaccines while on this med long term. Mr. Higgins will be 8 in August. Thanks.

Agree

I wouldn't be giving any more vaccines.

because of the cyclosporin?

I will have to do the rabies. What are the risks because of his medication? Is his age a factor? I will consider titres from now on.

Unfortunately Rabies is the law

in most stats so you don't have an option.  But if he has never had a reaction to rabies don't worry.  He will be fine.  I just had MacKenzie's rabie shot a couple of months ago, no problem.  He is 9 so that will be his last.

I don't think the cyclysporin would cause any concern to me.

yes, I will have to do rabies

It is law in Canada too. I suppose for good reason. How do you get away with stopping MacKenzie`s rabies next time? And why do you need to stop? Sorry, I just want to be really informed.

Thanks for all the helpful responses.

Rabies vaccine....

I just stop when they're older!    From what I've read, it's been determined that the vaccine actually gives protection for 7+ years, if not for life.  After they've had so many boosters as required by law, I'm sure my dogs are fully immunized against rabies when they're adults.  The law is to protect people and other pets from my rabid dog biting them.  After about 8 years, they're not usually so active--going to places and events, etc., so I just don't allow it to be given any more.

Rabies every 3 years

so if he lives past 12 I won't do rabies even if it is the law.  He's not going to be in any position that would warrant the need.  We don't live in the wild and he doesn't bite, LOL.
