Litter of puppies and it never gets easier! Puppies are 3 days old and were all doing excellent till this morning. They are all gaining good weight all about 19 ounces and sucking pretty good. One is very gargly and when she nurse's it come's out the nose but is fine once it is wiped and put in with the other's. I recently changed mom's food and last night the pups did not poop for 3 feeding, all of them. I have been feeding them every 2 hours. My question is can changing mom's food change the way they act? They were all acting uncomfortable and not pooping. I did finally get them to poop after 4 feedings but they stilll are acting whiny....She was on solid gold puppy and I changed her to earthborn bison.

crying puppies
I don't think the food change for mom is why the pups are crying.
Have you tried giving them some Mylicon drops? It is for human babies that get gas. I've found if pups have gas or an upset stomach, it will ease their discomfort. Also, if you haven't started the pups on a probiotic such as Bene-bac, I would do that now.
It wouldn't worry me too much if you didn't get a bowel movement out of the pups at every nursing. If it went on for over 24 hours, then I'd get concerned. I've found that a tiny puppy can be encouraged to go if you gently massage their tummy, maybe even hold their belly under warm running water, then stimulate them as normal.
Hope all goes welk with your litter. I'm raising a litter right now for someone, the pups are 2+ weeks old and there have been some challanges....
forgot to add -
When a pup gets milk in it's nose, be sure to suction it out, not just wipe it off. Any milk left in it's nose can possibly get into the lungs and result in aspiration pneumonia.
Thanks
They are doing good and pooping...I got some milacon drops and it worked. They are all gaining weight and sleeping well in between feedings except when mom hear's them whimper...LOL
