So this is our 4th night of having amos at home and he is doing well . The first two nights where a breeze sleeping in his crate, but the second two nights he has been up throughout the night, whining and whimpering. He did have cherry eye surgery monday and the vet advised us for him to wear a plastic protector cone when we are not able to watch him to prevent him from rubbing his eyes or licking/chewing on his stitches from his neautering. I think this cone is making him uncomfortble/hard to sleep but im nervious for him not to wear it because i would hate for him to rub his eyes and prevent the healing process. The only other possobility is that he misses his liter mates in which case is there anything i could do to make him feel better? Has any one else had to have there pup where one of these cones post surgery?

If he didn't cry
the first couple of nights without the cone then it seems likely the surgery and cone is the issue. Poor guy, those cones are miserable. If would just make sure he has a pillow to lay his head on and that the crate is big enough that he isn't banging that cone around all night. You might want to try an ex-pen instead of the crate with a bed like a Bowser donut bed. It would give him more room.
What kind of cherry eye
What kind of cherry eye surgery did he have? I've had cherries snipped and no cone was needed. Take his cone off when you're watching him and see if he attempts to rub his eye. If not, maybe he doesn't need it.
ComfyCone
When Hanna was spayed she had to wears cone at night. I got her one of the soft comfy cones from Petco. It took her a little while to figure out that she could lay down but once she got the hang of it she was sleeping like normal and even using it as a pillow to prop her head up =)
Spayed
Why did they think she would need it when she was spayed? Most bulldogs can't reach the incision so I've never seen it needed for a spay.
That's exactly what we thought..
Until she got to biting at the bottom two and got an infection..
comfy cone is a good idea
I think I will go get one of the confy cones today. I went last night to get a precision pen and new bed for him to lay that had more head support. He really liked the bed, but the presision pen didn't really work. He jumped and put his paws on the edge which ended up tipping the whole thing over. Not only was he neautered but he had a bilateral cherry(tacking method) surgery so I think the cone was a preventative for disrupting the healing of both. The first and second night after his surgery he cried all night in his kennel. My first thought was that he was uncomfortable with his cone and thus the trial of the precision pen and dog bed for more room to mave around. But even with that he whined while being placed in the presision pen for bed time. Mind you we are still in our first week of having him, so I might be over thinking things. I guess I am just trying to figure out if he is whining through the night because he is uncomfortable with the cone or just dislikes being in his kennel. Is there a period initially where they just have to cry it out at night? this might be a siily question..

Crying at bedtime..
The first week home Hanna would throw a fit at night when I left her in the crate and closed the door.. She had been sharing a crate with her sister Mia and the breeder thought that she was probably just lonely and scared.. She loved sleeping on me though so I put one of my old shirts in the crate with her and after the first week she was fine.. I think it just took her a while to get used to being in there alone (on top of being in a new place, without her litter mates, etc.)
Try short periods during the day when you're moving around and talking to him.. That way when night time comes around its not so strange..
Yes....Sometimes it takes tough love
MacKenzie cried the first 2 or 3 nights. It had been 7 years since I had a puppy so I was wondering with the heck I had done. My boyfriend wasn't too happy. After that he was fine. Now he either sleeps with me, sleeps in a bed on the floor in my bedroom, or he stays downstairs on the couch. He's a totally well adjusted ole guy, going to be 9 in a couple of months.
The others Cleo, Ester and Kohl never had any crying episodes.
Yoga and Bending Exercises
she must be practicing her Yoga...because there is no way in he$$ mine could reach, LOL! Sorry she got an infection. I agree with the soft cones, they look far more comfortable then the plastic ones....of course they are far more expensive too.
Leave it to Hanna..
Haha
