I will be bringing our new bulldog family member home this weekend and we will be crate trainig him. I was curious if we could use two crates to do this.. for example one in the living room and one in the bedroom, so as we dont have to move the crate up and down the stairs? Or will the dog only respond to one crate? This might be a silly question..

Two crates are fine
Just make sure they are nice and comfy with lots of toys. Crate training worked like a charm for me and my boy. Best of luck!
we only had luck w/ 1 crate - she wasnt happy upstairs -
and only 'near us' she wanted to be IN with us :p
When they are puppies and wee little, a crate in the bed room would work (Thinknig back to the labrador days) but when it was potty time, it was pick them up an out of crate and run down stairs and out the door - set them down and then they would immedately release.
Last steps taken May 26, 2014 -- Been rolling along ever since . . . .
Use one in every room ;)
Seriously that is a perfect plan.
Never too many crates
I say put them where you need them. Kilmore and Winnie never slept through the night when they were puppies (at some point they did, but it took awhile). When we got Oliver and Rocco the breeder told us to put a sheet over their crate, like you would a bird. They have yet to wake up in the middle of the night. She said that was one of her greatest pieces of information she received from her breeder friend. Note we only do that at night, during the day they get to look around. You might also want to invest in an octagon, that is also nice to have around.
