could henry have allergies?
Submitted by Tavia_Bubba on March 11, 2011 - 10:52amso henry has had a runny nose since i got him. im giving him Zithromax and cephalexin he has been on it since the 5th. i thought it was going away hes fine during the day but is waking up in the morning congested. its been that way for 3 days just in the morning. ??

He is too little. Hopefully some of the knowledgable breeders will chime in about the vaccines and medication side effects soon.

Congested in the morning only?
Where does he sleep? How does he sound? Dry cough, crackly cough, deep cough? Does he cough after being busy? Eating/drinking?

crackly like congestion. not after playing. early in the morning he comes by my face to wake me up. hes so smart! so i can put him down on the floor. he goes right to the pad, drinks water and then comes right back to bed. but when he wakes me up i hear it. :( then after he eats and plays a lil it goes away.
Has he been vet checked?
He has been in conditions that lend themselves to much disease so you need to watch him closely. If he hasn't been vet checked he needs to have his lungs listened too. Young puppies can aspirate and he could have some fluid, if so any possibility of pneumonia should be caught early on, because it can be very difficult to get rid of in young puppies that haven't had a good start. Also can be very deadly. I believe you said the other puppy has kennel cough, which is highly contagious, so that would cause be some concern as well.
That is pretty common.
Sophie does that in the winter, especially, when the heat runs all night. She gets all dried out in her mouth, but gurgly sounding in her nose and chest sometimes. I solved it by having a humidifier in the room with us. She is fine. Even I wake up snuffly sometimes when the heat is on all night.
If there is no discharge or other symptoms, I would say this could be the issue. If his chest is congested more than just in the morning though, you need to get back to the vet...that sounds like more of a URI (upper respiratory infection) than morning stuffies. If he is lethargic or starts drooling a lot, time to get him on in to your vet again. Those are symptoms of a fever and that means infection more than likely.

Chum had a URI when I got him
He was a cough monster but no discharge. He got abx and was much better within a day or two easy fix.

Alergies are very unlikely to be seen in puppies this age. He looks sickly and in need of grub. Poor little thing. Looks very young, not nearly 10 weeks.
I'm curious what the pet store was selling these puppies for? I'm wondering if they made enough money off them to resupply their stock with more puppies. It's not uncommon to see pet store puppies priced way above reputable breeders prices. But they do take credit cards :(

yes he is thin i noticed..$2000 for Henry
when i brough him home. and now that i have my bubba he is way more solid. Its noticeable now when they are together.the 2nd pup is AKC registered. i have a list of his parents and grandparents all akc registered. the breeder that bubba is from is named ****************************************. anyway you can see the difference in the legs his shoulders, even the way is face is porportioned. the fact that he is registered does that mean anything?
