Hey everyone! I haven't posted in a while, but I need a bit of advice. Nola is having her cherry eye removed tomorrow, and I was wondering if I needed to get her an e-collar. I knew we wouldn't need one when she was spayed because she couldn't reach her belly to lick it. I'm wondering if it is nessesary to keep her paws out of her eye. Does anyone have experience? I know it seems really trivial, but the less stressful I can make the whole process on her the better.
Thanks guys! I'll be sure to post pics soon.
If she's the Queen of Mardi Gras, what does that make me...?
I say yes
If you saw my post, we have been having major eye issues-- and the collar is essential because they scatch their eyes or rub their eyes on stuff around them. Hope that helps.

I would ask your vet tomorrow because...
I've had two with cherry eye surgery and neither of them had e collars. They didn't seem to mind it at all once it was over, no rubbing or pawing.
Good Luck Nola!
I also say yes, but you can alway confirm with the vet. Tater had surgery on her eyes to remove a fold beneath her eye and I found that she needed the collar to prevent pawing and also rubbing on the furniture & floor. Good luck ~ we will be thinking about you guys.
Thanks guys
Thanks guys, we will play it safe and get one. I will be sure keep you guys updated and post embarassing photos. :)

Cherry eye....
...collar was unnecessary for puppies I've had who had cherries removed! Good luck!
Best age to get cherry eye surgery?
My baby Bean needs cherry eye surgery too, but I'm a bit worried on his age and putting him under until he is old enough. Do they have to put them under for the surgery? He has had a cherry eye since he was 10 weeks old and he is almost 6 months now. What is a good age to get it done at? I had to put my other baby under at 5 months when he needed a MRI, after they thought he had discospondolytis (which he did) and that scared the heck out of me.
When to do it
My vet suggested to wait until she was over a year to have it done, just so we can make sure the other eye didn't come out too, and she wouldn't have to be put under more than once. Our vet used to breed and show bulldogs, and said that for the most part, if it hasn't come out by their first birthday, then it probably won't come out at all. And if it does come out, you might as well wait until they both do. Nola is 17 months, so we waited a bit longer just to be sure. However, if you are having him neutered, you might be able to have it fixed then. Hope this helps!

update?
How is Nola (and mom) doing this morning??

You guys rock, for reals.
Thanks sooo much for checking up on Nola, she is doing great actually. She was very restless yesterday afternoon/evening, because I made her wear the collar all day. The few times we did pull it off, she started itching and rubbing at it. Today however, she seems like a completely normal dog (at least so far). and her eye looks great! Aside from the bit of swelling and readness, she looks like a normal pup again! I am very happy we finaly went through with the surgery.
Thank you guys for checkin up on her, we are definately feeling the love :) And here is a quick photo of her in her cone. I'll have to share before and after photos of her eye with you guys in a day or two.

cherry eye
Here's a link to the description from this website: http://www.bulldogsworld.com/health-and-medical/cherry-eye
It isn't a life threatening problem, and often looks worse than it actually is. But it IS something that needs to be corrected relatively quickly so that it doesn't cause long term damage. Some bulldogs develop it and some seem to escape it...I don't really know the numbers, but i know it's relatively common. Hope that link answers your question in more specific terms.
