Cherry eye surgery

Hello all,

I am currently in the process of purchasing a 4 month english bulldog but her currently has cherry eye in both eyes. The breeder will be paying to have this addresses before we take him home, but I was curious about the reoccurence of this issue anf if i should hold the breeder responsible to any conditions within the first year of the puppies life reguarding this. Is there anything I can do as a bulldog parent to help with the healing of this surgery over time?

thank you

cherry eye

What kind of cherry eye surgery does the breeder have in mind, there is removal and there is the 'pocket' proceedure.  We just had one done a month ago. We had removal, but first tried massage therapy to get the cherry eye to go back in.  That worked 3 times, the 4th time it was not going to go back in.  She plays rough (7 month old) with out male Boston, and that rough horsing around seemed to make the cherry pop out each time.

Her recovery was a matter of 24 hours at the most.  We had her sedated, not put under....extremely important for me. She was at the vet for a total of 3 hours, groggy for 6 hours at home, and feeling all better by the next morning!

Cherry eye....

I would not turn down a puppy for cherry eye.  While it looks awful, once it is fixed, either by removal or surgical replacement, it should not ever be a problem.  It does not recur except sometimes when tacked instead of replaced in a pocket, and the vet would re-do it usually at no addition cost.  So I would go for the removal or replacement.  Removal, if you're lucky enough to have a vet who does it, is usually done with local anesthetic and the whole procedure takes about 10 minutes.  Replacement requires general anesthesia.   I wonder why the Breeder hasn't had it taken care of yet.  Good luck.

We have found

With our 8 year old Bullie girl that stress brings on the cherry eye syndrome. Matilda had cherry eye surgery in one eye back when she was about 7 months old (all sorts of ailments were happening then), the other eye membrane only blows up when she is stressing. Weird, but sometimes Matilda will hold her poop back, like squeezes her butt cheeks (lol) she really hates to go outside when it's raining and if she holds it too long this cherry eye thing happens. I'm not I am explaining this very well. It's Weird! Lol

thank you all for giving me much needed info about cherry eye. The pup will be having surgery to have them taken care of before we bring him home, hopefully his post surgery recovery is speedy!

Tank

Tank gets cheery eye if he plays too hard, or if his allergies are kicking up. So far we have always massaged it back it. It takes some practice, but we prefer this over the surgery. Are vet prefered it too. If the cherry eye can be massaged back it, it's best to avoid surgery IMO. Sometimes the dogs need eyedrops forever afterwords.
