Cherry eye surgery

My baby boy Tonka (16 wks) has cherry eye in both eyes. My vet suggested two different proceedures-tuck and removing the tear ducts. I know if they were to be removed I would have to put drops in his eyes everyday. Anyone have any experience with cherry eye? How did it turn out?

We opted for the snipping procedure

when Tuffy was about the age of your pup but we don't have to put in eye drops every day. We just have to keep a close eye on it over the years to check for dry eye. We opted for removing the gland over the tuck procedure because there was a chance the surgery wouldn't take and I didn't want to have to put Tuffy through that. But that was just our personal decision. I know a lot of people on this board have had successful tucking procedures. I know this is a hard decision...good luck with whatever you decide.!

i had mine snipped....

they can come back...then you have another surgery to go under.....it takes a while to develope dry eye...charlie has his cherry eye done 2 yrs ago and he is fine... the longer their out  the harder not to snip...ve a tuck....

We had Maude's cherry eye snipped

She has not developed dry eye because of it.  We opted for snipping since it did not require anesthesia.

It's about 50/50 on here between snipping and tucking.

Mr. Higgins` were tacked at 13 weeks.

It was done by an opthamologist. They have remained in place ever since. He will be 6 in 2 days.

We snipped....

Oliver had his first one snipped at about 10 weeks and then of course the other side popped about a week later so we had that one snipped as well.  He is now 1.5 years old and we have not had any issues with his eyes since.

I snipped and it was the best decision for us

no dry eye, it's like she never had it in the first place.

The vet told us that dry eye only happens in rare cases and that tucking it can pop back out again in a couple of months, it normally is not successful.

cherry eye surgery

I have both sharpei and bullies.  I have always had the cherry eye surgery that you mentioned first, the tuck procedure.  It woked beautifully.  No problems whatsoever, no dry eye, no re occurrence ever, in five dogs.
