Carmine stopped eating after 12 days on Cephalexin!
Submitted by carmiesmommy on March 15, 2011 - 8:05pmOk, I know you are supposed to finish antibiotics per vet's orders but Carmine completely lost his appetite and now he is a little lethargic. I called vet and she just wanted to change meds to doxycycline. He was supposed to be on ceph for 21 days and made it only to 12 before he stopped eating.This was for a bacterial infection in his paws. He is 11 years old and has never been on any antibiotic for more than 10 days. I give him pre and probiotics and greek plain yogurt. Do you think I am being too paranoid? Thoughts? I have heard too many horror stories and am researching too much on the internet about bad reactions to drugs. Thanks all for your ears....:))
Antibiotics
Sometimes the antibiotics really bother their stomachs. When my boy was on cephalexin, I was directed to give him pepcid (I use Walmart equate famatodine Acid Reducer) before meals, and gave the ceph after the meal. Maybe this would help. Good luck.
