Can medication cause peeing accidents???

Hello All,

Tank hasn't had an accident in over 2 years, so when he peed in the house this morning twice (he was so ashamed, it was heartbreaking!), we knew something was up. He is on medication for a staph infection and we thought this might be contributing. Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks! Halloween wishes from our bullies

oh yes

I know prednisone makes dogs drink more water, and therefore they need to go out more frequently or they have accidents.  I wouldn't be too worried, or hard on your guy...unless you've got a long round of treatment/meds.  Then it'd probably be worth talking to your vet about to make sure nothing will cause long lasting problems, or this isn't a symptom of a bad reaction.

I hope the Staph problem isn't anything super serious and that you're able to get it under control quick!

thx, it also smelled really strong like urine

...I don't know if that means something?

hmm

that would concern me, usually a strong/potent urine smell would indicate that your dog isn't drinking enough water or that the kidneys might be stressed and not functioning at 100% (could be something due to the meds for fighting the staph).  When Winston was on prednisone I don't remember anything particularly unusual about the accidents (beyond the fact that he was having them).

If I were you I'd call the vet just to make sure the smell isn't a symptom of something else.
