these calcium deposites.....
can either be left if small enough...or surgically removed....they can push from the skin and are to put it midly a bit gross....
their is no cure...and are often related to pred use and cancer.....
stop the pred.....you may need to wean off slowly but get off asap....i strongly suggest you go on a raw diet....this is a litle life threathing problem...if you research the internet make sure you put it in for dogs not humans....
stop the pred and that will stop the calcium build up.....
i can get alot more techinacal but it wont help.......
calcinocis cutis
Hi,
thank you for responding. i had no no idea that pred could do this. yes we are weaning her off she is every other day for the next 4 to 7 days then will be off. was concerned to take her off to fast. we are puttng her on a raw diet. she had been on rabbit protein so had ordered frozen to start weaning her to that. my vet suggested ostrich have probably just located a source for it. will be deceiding over weekend rabbit or ostrich for her protein then we were told to add collar greens and vet would give us multi vit to add. this type of diet lots of questions???
thank you and God Bless!!!

your diet.....
rabbit is better than ostrich.....i had heavy gas with ostrich...and unless your having severe allergery problems i would use the rabbit...i put all my client cockers on rabbit...
are you going pre made? or are you going for making it yourself.....
as for greens dogs cant digest vegetable matter.....i would go vit c 500mg a day...and cod liver oil once a day....i will do a little research tonight to see if their is some herbs that might help....
yes go very slow on the pred...and yes pred is very dangerouse...sadly vets use it as a quick bandaid...i would resear soe holistic vets by you and go see them...how much damage can be reversed i dont know....
keep asking question as you go along..were all here to help you
We have experience with this with our first bulldog, Rocky
He developed calcinosis cutis as a result of long term pred use when he was 6 yrs old. Sending you a private message.

Hi,
First your prayers are GREATLY APPRECIATED PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR BRITCHES!!!
Britches has been on it for at least two years. I had no no idea this could occur. If you are able to work around the pred by using a different medication I would HIGHLY suggest you go that route. Use the pred only only as a VERY last resort.
God Bless!!!

Wow, I can't believe a vet would prescribe
pred for such a long period of time. Shame on them. Glad that you are taking her off the meds, now its time to find out what caused the original problems instead of just suppressing the symptoms.

Hi
Thank you for your reply. I had found a source for ostrich but it looks financially not do able for us. It breaks my heart when the money is preventing us from doing what needs to be done. I'm hoping fortunately your responce will lead me into being able to help our bully babies through their diet. I do have a local source for rabbit. i've been trying to locate rutabaga to add to the rabbit. Our vet recommended the rutabaga?? He also mentioned that he would give us a multi vit to add to it. Can you please help us with this??? I don't know how to even prepare it for them or how much to feed them?? I know how many calories each are to get in a day, but unfortunately that info is at home could send later....
Thank you and God Bless!!!

first.....for a diet
you dont have to go either rabbit or ostrach...neither of them will benefit your dog any more than chicken will....what i am saying is that calcinocis will be better because you feed either of those.....most dogs on those type of proterins have bad allergies...and after about 4 months most go to chicken....so dont be upset about not being able to afford the rabbit or the ostrich....we'll get a protein that will help your dog....
first are you making your own raw diet??? or are you buying a premade diet like bravo???
calories mean nothing.....my 52 lb wilson gets 1 to 1/2 pund a meat a day.....as for a vit give one 500mg vit c and one cod liver tab...easy..for calicium
crush up a egg shell...feeding raw is very easy...and its alot of fun...you cant go wrong...believe me..its very simple....
the rule of thimb is 80% meat 10% bone 10% organs....thats very easy to follow....we can walk thru all your questions...just jot some down..and we'll work thru it....

Hi,
Sorry, should have mentioned possible unknown allergies, yeast/fungus problems. That is the main reason for the unusual protien and being extreamly careful about every ingredient.
Your help is greatly greatly appreciated!!!

that was when feeding a kibble....
if it makes you more comfortable start with rabbit..... dump the veggies really latter when things have gotten under control and you feel more confident then add in some greens...dogs cannot digest greens or grains.....
you are going to be amazed at how healthy and happy your guys are going to be in a couple of months...i know cathy will jump in pretty soon...she just started raw a year or so ago...and she can tell you all the benefits....
when ready let me know your diet
CALCINOCIS CUTIS
Hi,
EXTREAMLY GRATEFUL FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT!!!
I know folks that use collar greens that feed raw??? but told rabbit doesnt have enough fat so the rutabaga would be the better way to go??? I will be cAlling the butcher where I can get the rabbit after work. Not sure if he is open but will get awhold of him asap. I would have a easier time perhaps with venison but specialist said protein too close to beef. Hoping we can afford the rabbit....
Thank you and God Bless!!!

Why was she taking the prednisone?
And has that problem been taken care of?

CALCINOCIS CUTIS
Hi,
I need your help!! As I mentioned we just can't financially afford the ostrich. We are now trying to figure if the rabbit will be doable for our babies. I am tryining to remember to breath.... We are trying to figure how much we need to feed each of them and will be adding the rutabaga (per the vet) only to the formula. Britches weights 41.6 pounds must not gain weight and Gunney weighs approx 68 to 70 pounds and also must not gain weight. Can you walk us through this???
Thank you and God Bless!!!
Thank you and God Bless!!!

ok not a problem.....
rulw of thumb is 2 to 3% of adult weight....... my wilson is 56 lbs and gets 1 to 1/2 lb a day......my henery is 69 lbs and gets 2 lbs a day...
dont get exact about this....do an average....you wont see a weight gain like you would feeding a kibble...kibble has binders..sugars..crap...
dogs digest 99% of the raw...
now tell me the best you can... how are you getting the rabbit???? meat only or meat and bones....pre made??? whole rabbit?
i cant tell you how much of the greens as i dont do greens.....and in total chinese medicine (tcm)the herbs are very specific for the needs of the dogs.....
so i would go a lb a day...and when you see weight loss increase.....
what kind of oragns are you using??? turkey ...lamb....chicken...
CALCINOCIC CUTIS
Hi,
The rabbit comes from a butcher frozen w bones organs?? will have to find out but doubtful. For now just want to get started will only be giving small amouts to make sure all goes well. Since they are on royal canin potatoe and rabbit I'm assuming the rabbit protein will be ok. Can I ask how much does it cost you to feed your babies a week??? Still hoping and praying we can swing this, its heartbreaking that the money is even a factor when it comes to their health!!!
How do you prepare the rabbit???
Pork was suggested it truely worked for someone else, but really trying not to change the protein if we don't have to. By chance do you know anything about using pork??
Thank you and God Bless!!!
Thank you and God Bless!!!
Cecilia & George
i feed raw that means
i do not prepare the meat its given raw ..if you cook it ....you will lose all the benefits of a raw fed diet....i dont no of many butchers the prepare rabbit whole. will....i use pork when i can and its on sale...remember the stuff in kibble is processed....and its a meal by product....no real fresh raw meat...the allergies are from the crap they make the food from....the by products..the additives and chemicals they treat the food with....
so your dogs may not be "allergic" to real chicken...or turkey...or lamb... you get no benefit from feeding both kibble and raw...and if you still feel you have to feed kibble feed it at night and feed the raw in the am.....it takes alot of stomach juices to break down kibble....
their are alot of co ops that buy in large amounts that will cut your cost...
for the 6 of my bulldogs maybe 200$ a month less when i find some really good buys....i also buy in bulk..i had to buy a freezer....but i also no longer go to the vets ....no shots..no flea products ..no heartworm meds....
CALCINOCIS CUTIS
Hi,
I have heard soooo much how much raw is better for them but.... not sure how ready we are to take the plung...concerned about the bones in rabbit???if it were the pork no bones but concerned about changing proteins right now and to feed it raw what about well I'm sure you've heard it all about feeding raw pork?? Wanted to get her off processed food on a good rabbit & rutabaga cooked diet have them to be stable on that then possibly begin to add raw then fully raw.
Also, hoping to get more feedback regarding things to soothe & help heal the CALCINOCIS CUTIS besides DSMO. Read the label on the DSMO almost possitve its going back to the store. Someone out there must have some other solutions that has helped...
