Hello Everyone - Happy New Year!! My 9 month old male, neutered bulldog is going crazy around his butt. Since he can't reach it we have been cleaning his bum everytime he goes out. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be helping him. Any suggestions??? His poop is fine and comes out fine. We are very troubled. Baxter did receive a toy this Christmas that has the strings on it. We have not seen any in his poop.
Our other concern is his eye. The right eye seems to water alot and now he has rash down his fold. Any homopathic cures?? I await anyones help.
Regards, Georgina

It's probably either his tail pocket...
if he has one or his anal glands need expressing (you need a vet or vet tech or groomer to do that).
Tail pockets
Mine have rocked back and forth (almost humping), or spin with their butts on the carpet when their tail pockets are bothering them. Riley, the one I have now, only has a tail pocket on the bottom. She needs it cleaned regularily to keep her comfortable.
Bum issues
Hello Thank you for getting back to me. Is this something that needs to be done on a regular basis??

Anal glands depend on the dog...
Some need it done frequently and others not at all. If the stool is firm, it usually helps express the glands without outside help. What kind of tail does he have? Our guys with deep pockets will start itching against walls and furniture if they have gunk in the pocket, I usually clean it out with peroxide, dry it and then squirt in gold bond powder with a plastic ketchup holder that has a long nozzle on it. If it is the glands, the vets office can see if they are full and express them. They usually have the techs do it so you don't have to pay for an office visit. We used to take our lhasa to a groomer and they would do the glands once a month, but our bullies just get showered at home.
Chloe always let us know
when it was time to do the anal glands as she would scoot across the floor or grass. With her it was every 6-8 weeks as she did not express them herself at all. My vet did it at no charge to me. Good guy!
We are dealing with same issue
for Onslow I know he needs his anal glands expressed. the vet can do it.
It sounds like you are dealing with an allergy response.
From the watering, itchy eye to the other things you mention, I would say you are possibly dealing with a food involved allergy. What are you feeding currently? My girl did the butt spin ALL the time for a long time, I tried many brands of food, nothing helped her for long. Believe it or not, I ran out of my regular feed, but I live really far out in the boonies and the local grocery store doesn't carry much in the way of good feed. I bought a bag of good ol' Purina One lamb and rice to feed until I could get to town, and withing a couple of days Sophie stopped spinning, smelling, and itching. She had been on grain free for years, I never knew she was having a reaction to the single source CARBOHYDRATE, not protein! She is allergic to potatoes of any kind, either sweet or white. She has no more red legs and doesn't lick at all. Her face is clear, her eyes look good, and no more spinning her life away on her bum.
ALL that to say it may be a food involved issue. I would start there, along with cleaning the tail pocket out really well on a weekly basis.
