You can ask them for whole chickens or::::: leg quarters::: rate currently is 0.59/lb::: (my dogs do fine with darker chicken.) They usually do this by a case of 40#. One of my butchers will grind the stuff for me if I buy from them and pre-package in whatever weight I want them to put it in BUT for a PRICE!!! 2 Xs the PRICE!! We don't use that butcher right now. I currently use one butcher that is in my neighborhood and use our ginder and foodsaver everything ourselves. We get 40 lbs of chickens, he knows it is for my dogs but he still caters to us whatever we want and calls us immediately when our stuff is in. I get their gizzards at the grocery store still with their plain fat free yogurt. We don't do veggies as part of their meals they get them as treats but it really ends up to be about 2 or three slices of carrot or a green bean a day. We use 3 lbs of chicken a day.

thanks...good to know
I tried to de-skin a bunch of chicken one day..that was gross
do you feed the skin and all?
I pull as much skin off as I can
It is much easier to get the skin off when it is almost completly thawed but for a good grind session you need it really really cold! It is very hard to get the skin off of freezing cold chicken with your bare hands. I use a Buck knife that is supose to be used for deer hunting until I got my hands on it, it is now my favorite kitchen knife yes that may count as a redneck characteristic but oh well :( I'm from MN anyway so you betcha!!!! The first few times I did it by hand (no knife) I did gag but then you have to hum a little tune or focus on something else while doing it. I learned not to have the trash out and on the floor while doing this because the dogs may intercept the tossing of the skin into the trash and it is gone in a flash and Chumlee is in his rebel stage now so he is just a real treat currently ;) I now sit at the table with a trash "bowl."
I'm still trying to figure out how to de-skin the wings.......
Don't try this at home
