Bully diagnosed with Pemphigus

My 7 year old English Bulldog has had allergies in the past which have affected his skin. This past December his skin broke out extremely bad with crusty, scabby scales...I know, not a pretty picture, and it is absolutely horrible. At first my vet thought it was his allergies but after no relief and three months of assorted drugs we had biopsies done and he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Pemphigus. Currenly he is on Presdnisone and Azthioprine and has still had no relief.

Has anyone else had to deal with Pemphigus? IF yes, what treatments worked for you? We are at a loss. My dog is my world and I hate to see him suffer with this awful condition.

Thanks you !

Courtney

Archives...

I seem to remember someone on the old BDW board dealing with this issue many years ago.  Those postings were supposed to be saved, so do a search and hopefully you'll find some information.  Good luck!

Here is a link to one post from the archives.

Hope this will help.

Thanks for the thoughts and the post. I found this post earlier and contacted Helga's owner. I sure hope we can get it under control. I had never heard of this disease and hope no one on here ever has to deal with it.

Are you seeing a Dematologist?

They are specialists when it comes to skin issues. Maybe it would be best to get a second opinion and alternative options? So sorry your baby has this condition. Wishing a speedy recovery!

Thanks

We have a follow up on Monday and I am going to ask to be sent to a specialist. I know my vet has been confering with a dermatologist but I want to see one. His current medications are not working.

Old BDW posts...

Sorry, I meant the old BDW archives....I thought someone had this issue many years ago.  It doesn't seem easy to search them.

Update

We saw a dermatologist yesterday and I have my fingers crossed we are on a good plan. Huge dose of steroids right now...Hope for the best ! What an awful condition....
